Immerse yourself in the rich history of Venice with a stay at the 13th-century Palazzo Selvadego, occupying an unbeatable location just behind the iconic St. Mark’s Square. With its Gothic façade, thick stone walls, gargoyles and tall arched windows, the property is a shining example of Venetian Byzantine architecture. Behind its imposing facade, though, the hotel’s elegant guest rooms feature a subtle Beaux Arts design, with much more modern furniture and amenities.
Palazzo has been recommended by Condé Nast Johansens as a best luxury hotel, but you don’t need to stay at the hotel itself to have a dreamy Venice stay. Pop over to sister Hotel Monaco & Grand Canal a few minutes away for a sumptuous buffet breakfast while watching the world float by on the famed Grand Canal. Then, set off to wander the city’s alleyways, and make a stop for the nearby Venice Casino for an extra dollop of fun and thrills.
Superior rooms cover a generous 269 square feet and feature exposed-beam ceilings, dark-wood parquet flooring and fine fabrics on furniture in the sitting area. En-suite bathrooms are also large and well equipped.
Amenities- Satellite TV- Wi-Fi access- Air conditioning- Coffee machine- Direct-dial telephone- Hair dryer- Minibar- Safe
Complimentary buffet breakfast is served at sister Hotel Monaco & Grand Canal a couple of minutes away. Expect hot and cold choices, including fresh pastries and croissants. All can be enjoyed on the al-fresco terrace overlooking the Grand Canal, weather permitting. For other meals, there are many restaurants in the vicinity.
Palazzo Selvadego couldn’t be more central, being just behind St. Mark’s Square and next to the Correr Museum. Although this location means it can be a tad noisy in the mornings and early afternoon, it all quiets down towards late evening. The hotel makes a great base from which to explore many of Venice’s main attractions on foot. The legendary Rialto Bridge is about half a mile away, while Venezia Santa Lucia train station is a half-hour walk (or 10-minute drive) away.
How to Get There
perfect location in a late gothic palazzo literally 20 metres away from piazza san marco.
the general services (restaurant, lobby, breakfast room) are available at the Monaco & Gran Hotel 2 minutes walking away
ample and well equipped rooms
price quality ratio very very good
We ended up here as our travel firm had messed up but we struck lucky as this was better than where we planned to stay!
The rooms were quiet and comfy and, best of all, it's linked to (or maybe owned by) the Hotel Monaco & Grand Canal so you can eat your breakfast on the wonderful terrace by the Grand Canal.
We stayed at the Palazzo during our trip in July and I wanted to take the time necessary to write a review that is so well deserved. I stayed with our kids (12 and 14) in what was supposed to be a family suite. In fact, it was even better. We had 2 rooms located in a corner right next to one another. Plenty of space, clean, and so well-located. A few steps and you are in St. Mark square. Could not have hoped for a better location.
But where it really made a difference was in terms of service. At the time of arrival, of departure and in between. We asked Carlo at the desk to pull up a few special places where we could have a different experience for dinner and he did just that. The three nights we stayed in Venice will remain in our minds for the rest of our lives and this is all thanks to the staff at the Palazzo.
I could not have hoped for a better stay. If I ever have a chance to go back to Venice, this is where I will stay.
