Immerse yourself in the rich history of Venice with a stay at the 13th-century Palazzo Selvadego, occupying an unbeatable location just behind the iconic St. Mark’s Square. With its Gothic façade, thick stone walls, gargoyles and tall arched windows, the property is a shining example of Venetian Byzantine architecture. Behind its imposing facade, though, the hotel’s elegant guest rooms feature a subtle Beaux Arts design, with much more modern furniture and amenities.
Palazzo has been recommended by Condé Nast Johansens as a best luxury hotel, but you don’t need to stay at the hotel itself to have a dreamy Venice stay. Pop over to sister Hotel Monaco & Grand Canal a few minutes away for a sumptuous buffet breakfast while watching the world float by on the famed Grand Canal. Then, set off to wander the city’s alleyways, and make a stop for the nearby Venice Casino for an extra dollop of fun and thrills.
Superior rooms cover a generous 269 square feet and feature exposed-beam ceilings, dark-wood parquet flooring and fine fabrics on furniture in the sitting area. En-suite bathrooms are also large and well equipped.
Amenities- Satellite TV- Wi-Fi access- Air conditioning- Coffee machine- Direct-dial telephone- Hair dryer- Minibar- Safe
Complimentary buffet breakfast is served at sister Hotel Monaco & Grand Canal a couple of minutes away. Expect hot and cold choices, including fresh pastries and croissants. All can be enjoyed on the al-fresco terrace overlooking the Grand Canal, weather permitting. For other meals, there are many restaurants in the vicinity.
Palazzo Selvadego couldn’t be more central, being just behind St. Mark’s Square and next to the Correr Museum. Although this location means it can be a tad noisy in the mornings and early afternoon, it all quiets down towards late evening. The hotel makes a great base from which to explore many of Venice’s main attractions on foot. The legendary Rialto Bridge is about half a mile away, while Venezia Santa Lucia train station is a half-hour walk (or 10-minute drive) away.
How to Get There
It is a lovely place to stay. Like Venice it has that old traditional style to it with beams on the ceiling and an actual key! Big bathroom and a great location. It is so close to everything would go there again. Only minor complaint is the beds are hard and it is very warm in there.
Arrived and they had sold my room!!!!!!!
They put me into another hotel that I didn't like, they weren't sure whether I would stay one or two nights there, then they said they would move me to Selvadego. When booking a holiday on my own (a young woman) I do a lot of research before doing so, so that I feel safe. I didn't feel safe when I arrived, to be told I'll be checking into another hotel, which was a downgrade from theirs. They didn't upgrade me into the posher one of theirs, which for the inconvenience I could have forgiven, but outsourcing me felt horrid, like I didn't matter at all. I was a single person inconvenience. If you paid all your money upfront for this hotel, it's misselling when you get put in another totally separate hotel that's nothing to do with them. I was offered a free dinner in their posh restaurant but who wants that when you haven't got somewhere to put your belongings safe for your weeks stay. I had tours booked so having to unpack, pack, carry and do the logistics whilst trying to enjoy a holiday that you'd had planned for nearly 2 months wasn't my idea of feeling welcome or stress free and relaxed.
I wouldn't book this hotel at all! Mainly because you won't get it.
I had a bad gut feeling before I went, as I sent 2 emails to the hotel regarding my booking before and neither were answered. That's why I put a question on Trip Advisor to ask if they even existed, so to be honest my gut was right to be worried.
If you want to feel unimportant and stressed and not know where you're staying and then have to spend over 4 hours fighting for a refund and then to find another hotel that you like and want to stay the week in- then this is the place for you!!!
If you're not staying in their Grand Canal hotel they don't care about you. Simples!
They ruined the start of my holiday. This Selvadego hotel made my holiday the most memorable in terms of the most disastrous.
Don't stay here!
Excellent location, under a minute to San Marco square. We thoroughly enjoyed the central point of this hotel, having taken the shuttle boat , "ALILAGUNA from the airport we easily found the hotel. the room was spacious with two beds. Staff was knowledgeable and accommodating. We easily moved around Venice from this location.
Hotel is located in just under a minute walk from San Marco square. This was the most important thing for us when we searched for a place to stay in Venice. We got a good deal online, and searched no further. Selvadego is in fact not a hotel in its own right, it is an apartments extension to hotel Monaco. So set your expectations right up front, and you will not be disappointed. Rooms was clean and spacious enough. Had a safe, minibar, all amenities you may want in a hotel room. Parent hotel Monaco has 24x7 service desk with professional and friendly staff, restaurant, bar, lounge, etc. if you need more than just a room to spend a night. The only downside I noticed so far was a slow WiFi. But it was free, and I am not going to take any stars away because of that.
We had a lovely stay at Palazzo Selvadego. The hotel is clean with friendly staff. The room was spacious and the small bed was prepared for my little toddler)
The biggest benefit is that the hotel has very central location.
