How to Get There
My girlfriend and I had a wonderful stay here. It is in a great location a two minute walk from the taxi boat. The reception staff were excellent and very helpful. Our room was beautiful it was called the annex. Would highly recommend.
Not overly impressed with this Hotel. It doesnt look as good in person as on the photos and could do with some TLC! We were placed in the annexe in what was supposedly a double room but more like a single with a double bed in it. The room was directly above the Bar/Restaurant and was extremely noisy. Breakfast was very basic and not particularly appertising and the Staff were not that friendly or helpful.
As others mentioned, the location is great, right across from the boat taxi stop, which was great for our evening arrival from the airport, and the San Zaccaria vaporetto stop, and a short walk to St Mark’s square. We stayed in February, and the weather was clear but cold, and fortunately no flooding. We stayed in a triple room in the main building, and the size was adequate for us, but no view at all, as described. The single “bed” was hard since it did not have a mattress, and was more like a sofa, but was fine for a few days. The bathroom was large and modern, with good toiletries, and extra towels delivered upon request. A few of the light bulbs were out, but when mentioned, were replaced the next day.
We like staying at small locally owned hotels rather than large chains or corporate types. Front desk staff was not particularly engaging, but the hotel fit our needs. For the price, this is a great deal. Reserve early, as it seemed fully booked. Great value for what we paid. I would definitely stay again, unlike the hotel we had stayed in 5 years ago, and did not return to this trip.
I loved the city and visiting it in spring was even better
the hotel is in the best location few meters away from the main piazza.
we took the family room no view but I can imagine that the room with the view should be awesome.
Our priority was being near San Marco Piazza, not having to carry luggage down little alleyways looking for a hotel, not being too expensive, and having a rom large enough for my daughter, 9 year old granddaughter, and myself. A plus would being close to a vaporetti stop and having a water view. We found this at the Hotel Paganelli.
The hotel lobby is not fancy, but we certainly appreciated our room 216 which had two windows looking directly out at the lagoon and promenade Riva degli Schiavoni. There was so much to observe. The room was large enough for a single bed for me and a double bed for my daughter and 9 year old granddaughter. There was a nice bathroom with shower, heated towel racks, and a window which opened to give a view of the narrow street below where we could see the sign for the hotel breakfast and annex.
An elevator could take us to the 2nd floor, but there were still some steps to get to the room............this is an old building which we were told was a nunnery in the Middle Ages and the Hotel Paganelli for over 100 years. More rooms are available in the annex where breakfast was served. There wasn't a wide variety, but nevertheless, it was fine....eggs, cheese, meats, granola, yogurt, croissants, coffee, tea, pastries, etc.
Location: The hotel is in the Castello District right next to the San Marco District. Very close to the vaporetti stops(San Zaccaria), gondolas, and less than 5 minutes to the Doge's Palace and San Marco Square........unless, like us, you stop to take pictures of the Bridge of Sighs, etc. If you go down the little alleyway where breakfast is, you come to San Zaccaria Church and a variety of shops and eateries.
From the hotel, we walked to the Rialto Bridge, the Accademia Bridge, the Opera House, plus all of the activity in San Marco Piazza,,,,,Bell Tower, Doge's Palace, San Marco Basilica, Correr Museum, eateries, shops........
Luggage can be stored after check out which is what we did until it was time to leave for the train.
I WOULD GLADLY STAY AT THE HOTEL PAGANELLI AGAIN.
