Gothenburg, located at the mouth of the Gota River on the south-west coast, may be known as Sweden’s ‘second city’ but its good-time reputation is enough to rival hip Stockholm. With a wooden rollercoaster, plenty of bars and clubs and boutique shops showcasing up-and-coming designers, it’s a city that buzzes all year round.
At the Elite Park Avenue, you’ll be at the absolute centre of the action. Located on Avenyn, the most famous boulevard in Gothenburg, the hotel is within walking distance of Central Station and is just a hop, skip, jump away from the cultural quarter, Götaplatsen square, where you’ll find the city’s main theatre and independent art galleries.
If museums and galleries don’t float your boat, then head up to the city’s port, which is the largest in Scandinavia, to see many of Sweden’s historic vessels, including a Viking ship. Spend an afternoon pottering around the network of canals and the cobbled squares lined with pastel-coloured buildings. No visit to Gothenburg is complete without sampling a few regional specialities such as lingonberry jam or herring and new potatoes washed down with beer and schnapps.
Superior rooms are modern and stylish with neutral décor. The air-conditioned rooms have satellite TV and comfy armchairs.
The varied buffet breakfasts cater for all diets. The hotel has three restaurants. Park Avenue Café serves modern reworkings of classic Scandinavian dishes, while the English-style pub, The Bishops Arms, serves the usual pub fare. If neither take your fancy, there’s also the crowd-pleasing Restaurant Locatelli offering continental cuisine and a late-night bar.
No Swedish hotel would be complete with a wellness centre and at the Elite, you’ll have use of its gym, saunas and relaxation area. Massages and treatments can be booked.
This is an ideal location for those wanting to be in the heart of the city. The Elite Park Avenue is on the city’s main road, which is packed with bars, restaurants and clubs. Trams also run nearby, but with its compact size, most of Gothenburg’s sights are easily reachable on foot or bike. The Liseberg amusement park, with its famous wooden roller coaster is not far and Gothenburg City Airport is only six miles away.
How to Get There
Room was too hot and staff got a fan for us. Excellent service. Pool was way too cold though and hope the temperature is adapted to the time of the year. Close to Liseberg, Universeum and central station. Excellent hotel.
The hotel has nice large rooms with private bathroom. Maid service daily so always fresh towels. Breakfast has a large selection of products and they have a separate area with a selection of gluten free and lactose free products including a separate toaster for gf bread which is unusual but very much appreciated as I have coeliac disease. Only thing lacking is a better selection of fruit as they seem to only have apples and watermelon every day! Very well placed for transport links, restaurants and shops.
Our soccer team stayed at the hotel during the Gothia Cup. The hotel is well located to the center of the tournament, town, and transportation. The on-site staff is very friendly and very helpful. They were will to help find a solution to any problem.
They did not control my booking. Had booked 4 rooms for 3 days, but was told on arrival that one room was only booked for 2 days. Showed my booking confirmation from Booking.com but they did not care. I would spend 2 mornings myself to solve the problem. Which turned out to be in their system.
The hotel is located at the city centre area with lots shops and restaurants around the hotel. Walking distance to take bus/tram. The Opera house and national library are just next door. The breakfast was nice. The food was fantastic. Definitely worth for money.
Parking is available but with a cost.
