Gothenburg, located at the mouth of the Gota River on the south-west coast, may be known as Sweden’s ‘second city’ but its good-time reputation is enough to rival hip Stockholm. With a wooden rollercoaster, plenty of bars and clubs and boutique shops showcasing up-and-coming designers, it’s a city that buzzes all year round.
At the Elite Park Avenue, you’ll be at the absolute centre of the action. Located on Avenyn, the most famous boulevard in Gothenburg, the hotel is within walking distance of Central Station and is just a hop, skip, jump away from the cultural quarter, Götaplatsen square, where you’ll find the city’s main theatre and independent art galleries.
If museums and galleries don’t float your boat, then head up to the city’s port, which is the largest in Scandinavia, to see many of Sweden’s historic vessels, including a Viking ship. Spend an afternoon pottering around the network of canals and the cobbled squares lined with pastel-coloured buildings. No visit to Gothenburg is complete without sampling a few regional specialities such as lingonberry jam or herring and new potatoes washed down with beer and schnapps.
Superior rooms are modern and stylish with neutral décor. The air-conditioned rooms have satellite TV and comfy armchairs.
The varied buffet breakfasts cater for all diets. The hotel has three restaurants. Park Avenue Café serves modern reworkings of classic Scandinavian dishes, while the English-style pub, The Bishops Arms, serves the usual pub fare. If neither take your fancy, there’s also the crowd-pleasing Restaurant Locatelli offering continental cuisine and a late-night bar.
No Swedish hotel would be complete with a wellness centre and at the Elite, you’ll have use of its gym, saunas and relaxation area. Massages and treatments can be booked.
This is an ideal location for those wanting to be in the heart of the city. The Elite Park Avenue is on the city’s main road, which is packed with bars, restaurants and clubs. Trams also run nearby, but with its compact size, most of Gothenburg’s sights are easily reachable on foot or bike. The Liseberg amusement park, with its famous wooden roller coaster is not far and Gothenburg City Airport is only six miles away.
How to Get There
As always, a very pleasant stay. Our hotel of choice in Gothenberg. The very best location on the main street, without the noise. Ask for preferably a room towards the park. And do take advantage of their parking. We had our car broken in to in the parcade next door. Will absolutely recommend this Hotel.
We stayed there for three nights and found the whole experience rather disappointing. There were several problems during our stay including dirty blood stained "cleaned" bedsheets, telephone not working, rude staff, coffee mugs not being replaced and spider in the loo. In standard hospitality service when you raise such concerns the hotel staff is apologetic and try and fix things immediately. We did not see any of evidence of this.
We would not recommend the hotel.
The hotel had everything we needed for one night. The cleanness was also very high. It is located central with walking distance to shops and restaurants. Breakfast had a good selection of everything. All in all a very good choice if you need a place to stay while exploring Gothenburg.
This hotel is very well located in Gothenburg right on its large avenue which goes from the Art museum to the harbour all in walking distance.
It is very quiet but I was there during Easter holidays and my room was over looking the park behind.
The room was spacious and comfortable. It seems the building has been there for a long time and has been refurbished. Some parts are still a bit tatty in the corners and stairs. Breakfast was very fresh and offered a large choice. The personnel is smiling and professional.
You have to book a slot to go to the sauna and pool area which was a surprise. Due to traveling for work I could not anticipate and did not benefit from it.
The hotel also has a hairdresser on the ground floor. It seems the fitness is open to external visitors to the hotel.
Park Avenue Hotel is a very classic if not conservative themed hotel with perfect location in center of town.
It is not fancy in anyway, but with good quality in rooms overall, beds and bathroom. Seems to have been renovated recently.
An attraction is the restaurant (run by a Michelin-chef) and the lively bar, which has a large selection and is very good staffed (3 waiters late evening on my visit).
Elevators is slow, and I had a bad start: Arriving at my room at the end of a quite long corridor, the key didn’t work. Grrrr.
