Contemporary chic sleep with sweeping harbor and mountain vistas, and a French bistro, located in downtown Coal Harbour
Located near leafy Stanley Park and the shops of Robson Street in the downtown neighborhood of Coal Harbour, the Loden brought new style and high design to cosmopolitan Vancouver when it opened in 2008. Custom-designed interiors mix creature comforts with a stylish edge, so expect sleek furnishings, bold colors and all the modern extras. The welcoming lobby sets this tone with velveteen sofas, a fireplace and striped marble.
Bed and Bath
Upstairs, guestrooms capture the views of the harbor and mountains through floor-to-ceiling windows — views reflected in the huge mirrors covering the walls behind kingsize beds in most rooms. In Signature Rooms, sliding walls divide (or connect) living rooms and bathrooms, while in the 800-square-foot one-bedroom suites, pocket doors section off the bedroom from the living area. The vibe here is certainly sexy; Agent Provocateur once took over a few floors for a lingerie show.
Vancouverites flock to the Loden’s Tableu Bar Bistro, which is fronted by a lively bar. Room service also provides ample sustenance, and favorite nearby eateries include Italian Kitchen, Coast and Chambar. The large fitness center is open 24 hours a day — and it too is enclosed by the signature floor-to-ceiling windows. There is also a one-room spa that has the unique bonus of an infrared sauna. For travelers with dogs, the hotel will provide beds, bowls, freshly baked biscuits, dogsitting and appointments at a local dog spa. Vancouver naturally draws people to the great outdoors, and the Loden provides cruiser bikes for exploring the city in style.
In the Area
A short drive from the Loden, Grouse Mountain has skiing until early April, plus eco-walks, Theater in the Sky, Refuge for Endangered Wildlife and Skyride year-round. This new Chinatown brasserie is the place for small plates with big flavor such as shao bing, crunchy flatbread with braised pork butt, Asian pear, pickled onion and mustard greens. The cool Canadian designer has 2 Vancouver stores that feature uncommon designs for men and women. Join a plugged-in walking tour led by a chef from the Pacific Institute of Culinary Arts, or visit Vancouver's famous microbrewery, Granville Island Brewery.
