85-year-old landmark with haute fare and a swank spa
Georgian Revival. Toronto-based interior design firm Munge Leung blended a modern, sophisticated look with the historical style of the 156-room hotel. They preserved Art Deco details including Italian marble flooring, the fireplace and elevators with original brass dials. The Rosewood currently has the largest private collection of Canadian art in Canada, curated by Vancouver-based Farmboy Fine Arts.
Bed and Bath
Guestrooms, in a palette of ivory, chocolate and powder-blue, have sleek Deco-inspired furnishings, such as pearlized leather loungers and quilted headboards. Well-styled accessories include a vintage-look brass clock, mercury glass bottles and a chevron throw. Spa-style marble and dark wood bathrooms feature a deep soaking tub, a luxury shower and bamboo-and-lemongrass-scented Ohne bath amenities. Thoughtful extras include Nespresso machines and fully stocked bars.
The hotel has a huge local following thanks to chef David Hawksworth, who prepares stunningly fresh, inventive fare (think hamachi sashimi with passion fruit, jalapeño, coconut and white soy, and roasted halibut with wild mushrooms and bottarga). There’s also the super-swish rooftop restaurant and bar, Reflections, and the business-friendly 1927 Lobby Lounge. Or you can linger over pastries and coffee at Bel Café. Other on-site offerings include a spa with cult-favorite Intraceuticals facials, a 52-foot indoor saltwater lap pool and a business center.
In the Area
Since the Rosewood is located so centrally, walking is easy. Culture vultures will want to check out the Vancouver Art Gallery, right across the street, and the Pacific Centre shops are also just a stone's throw away. Hit the Diamond Restaurant and Cocktail Bar for pulled pork tacos, yucca fries and great drinks; for an upscale mix of French and Pacific Northwest, slide into L’Abattoir for milk-braised pork shoulder and black kale. Over on Robson Street, Vancouver’s shopping district, sample the hyperlocal fare (pork cracklings, bison tongue ravioli, beet and cress salad with black pepper praline) at Forage. And, of course, no food lover’s trip to Vancouver is complete without a trip to the Granville Island Public Market.
