A castle in the city complete with a jazzy bar and haute couture boutiques right in the elegant lobby
This grande dame’s design fits in perfectly with Fairmont’s portfolio of historic-luxe properties, starting with its oxidized copper roof, topped with gargoyles. Inside, high ceilings, Montebello marble staircases, huge crystal chandeliers and gold-framed paintings create a French Renaissance feel. The lobby houses a flagship Louis Vuitton boutique, plus shops by Gucci and Omega, adding to the exclusive, stylish vibe. Need more options? You can step out of the lobby and onto Alberni Street to shop Tiffany, Hermès and more.
Bed and Bath
Reproduction antique dark wood furniture, a caramel and yellow palette, heavy damask curtains, plush velvet chairs and more crystal chandeliers keep up with the lobby’s francophilia. Marble bathrooms are basic but big, with most everything in white, but the amenities introduced just last year, Le Labo Rose 31, are rather chichi.
Fairmont Gold guests have access to their own private lounge, with breakfast and afternoon canapés. Located on the 15th floor of the hotel, ROOF Restaurant + Bar opened in March 2014 and it serves up zesty dishes such as Innisfail lamb.
In the Area
The Vancouver Art Gallery is just steps from the Fairmont and has a special rotating exhibitions in its gorgeous white-pillared heritage building. Vancouver is one of the best food cities on the planet, especially for fresh fish; try Coast on nearby Alberni for all things seafood, and the late night bar scene at O Lounge (with DJ) in the evening. Asian influences abound in this town — so a dim sum brunch is a given. Need a post-shopping pick-me-up? French pastries, chocolates and coffee at Thierry are a must.
