A mod downtown oceanfront sleep with mountain, water and city views
A recent renovation by B+H CHIL Design went with an understated West Coast–luxe look to complement the hotel’s waterfront location and mountain views. They strengthened the existing soothing neutral palette with fresh cream, caramel and sea glass–blue hues, and hallways now have new carpets and taupe wallpaper with a contemporary pattern.
Bed and Bath
Renovated guestrooms feature furnishings custom-designed with sleek dark wood dressers, upholstered headboards and built-in sitting areas near windows. Graphic wallpapers and colorful throws and cushions provide just enough pop, and luxurious 300-thread-count bed linens up the ante as well. Bathrooms have dark wood, pink marble, modern fixtures, rain showers and — best of all — a TV in the mirror. Le Labo Rose 31 is the new amenity line provided near sink and shower.
ARC Restaurant + Bar opened in March 2014 and serves tasty dishes such as pemberton tenderloin of beef oscar with tarragon béarnaise and grilled asparagus by Executive Chef Dana Hauser. The rooftop garden grows many of the herbs, tomatoes, figs and lettuce served in the restaurant, as well. Be sure and try a honey-infused beer at the bar.
In the Area
It only makes sense you’d stroll through Gastown, since you’re right on the edge of it. To hit Vancouver’s oldest neighborhood, walk to Water Street from the hotel and head east. Nurse a Chimney Sweep cocktail at Pourhouse, then check out a live band while you sip one of 24 craft beers paired with a pulled pork sandwich at Mark Brand’s new Portside Pub. Or if shopping’s your thing, buy a pair of Naked and Famous jeans at hipster jeanery Dutil Deni. Asian influences abound in this town — so a dim sum brunch is a given. Walk north on Burrard Street to Imperial Restaurant for har gow and siu mai, with mountain and ocean views. Need a post-shopping pick-me-up? French pastries, chocolates and coffee at Thierry are a must.
