In Cali’s upscale Granada neighborhood, the Movich Casa del Alférez is a sleek boutique that provides a serene escape from the city’s frenetic heart. Hardwood floors, textured stone and neutral textiles give the property a sophisticated, understated ambience. The guestrooms feature tufted beige headboards and white linens, and most have Juliet balconies. The restaurant has a modern, romantic feel and a terrace lit by glass lanterns that’s perfect for relaxing, cocktail in hand. A 24-hour gym, air conditioning and cable TV round out the extras.
In the Area
Cali is Colombia’s third-largest city and is known as salsa central. There are dozens of dance schools across the city (try Son de Luz or Rucafé for starters). Guests can take a private lesson or three before braving the dance floor at one of the lively salsa clubs in Juanchito. On the weekends, city dwellers head to the Rio Pance in the hills near town for some R&R. With dense green jungle, hordes of beautiful people having barbecues, and shaded spots ideal for lazing away the day over a few beers, it’s a quintessentially Colombian experience.
How to Get There
I stayed at this hotel for a week. I really enjoyed my stay here. I had a couple issues and the staff at this hotel took care of it swiftly. They responded to every request. Great staff! Hotel is modern, quaint and near a commercial mall. Easy to walk to the parks where you can watch people and feed the birds corn. The breakfast was spot on. The beds are good and I love the hardwood floors in the room. Shower ad hot water worked great. Had to watch it as many hotels the water would get hot and then go back a few times but great shower. I would sty here again as it is near everything I wanted to do. It was a little tricky for taxis to find this as they got lost a few times.
An excellent mid range hotel. A very large bedroom with a beautiful wooden floor and tall windows opening onto a tiny balcony. An equally large and comfortable bathroom which was well equipped with abundant hot water. It seems to me that the building has had a substantial refurbishment in the recent past as the whirlpool bath was of a distinctly earlier vintage and needed a degree in mechanical engineering to make it work, not that it mattered as the shower was good. Calm, quiet, clean. Good WiFi. Very enjoyable breakfasts. A really pleasant outside corner bar. The one lunch we had was well made. All the bar and restaurant staff seem to be trained to a high standard. Staff friendly and helpful. Located in an attractive part of town with other cafes, bars and restaurants in the area. If I were ever in Cali again I would return here. Given the perfect climate in Cali I did think wistfully how it might be if they had a pool on the roof :)
spent 4 nights here and enjoyed it tremendously
good location....we did a lot of walking and there were tons of places to eat and bars to wet your whistle
super attentive to everything....even a delightful glass of flavored water to rehydrate after walking around....a very nice bar on an outside terrace too....restaurant too...and very
good food and reasonably priced....would return here without hesitation
My kind of a Hotel with a nice and relaxed atmosphere with a super location and with excellent rooms. I prefer hotels that do not remind me of a tivoli and have the local flavour - however a little improvement on communication skills in english would be nice. ...anyway the hotel is strongly recommend :-)
When traveling to Cali, it's important to be aware what part of the city you will be spending more time in, south or north; the city has grown towards the south in the past 20 years or so, and given chaotic traffic, it's best to stay near to where you will need to be. If in the northern part of Cali, the Movich Casa del Alferez is a solid choice, and a great value for the price. The rooms, featuring beautiful wooden floors, are large and well appointed, with large bathrooms and comfortable beds. Breakfast was included in our rate and, unlike so many other hotels where this means a paltry buffet, this is an a la carte breakfast with two pages of offerings in the menu! Throughout our stay, the hotel staff was super friendly, always ready to help with a smile.
If the hotel management reads this, I would suggest to them a few things; it is time to upgrade certain details such as the bathroom faucets. In our room (302), the shower faucets were loose (and the shelf next to the bathtub would flood every time we used the shower), and the bathroom fixtures were old. The toilet paper was extremely cheap and rough, and one of our towels was so threadbare, I poked a finger right through the fabric, so they would realize it needed changing. Our in-room safe, which looked very old-tech, failed, and they were not able to fix it. So Movich people: Time to invest a little bit in upgrades.
Other than those minor foibles, the hotel is excellently located near the north of of Cali, and once again, kudos for your great staff. Not a luxury hotel, but a very good choice nevertheless.
