Located on the southern slopes of Monte Bernisa, between the traditional Valencian town of Xàtiva and the foothills of the breathtakingly beautiful Xàtiva Castle, La Maga Rooms hotel brings some glorious minimalist modernity to an area steeped in history. There’s a nod towards tradition too though, with the design-led contemporary aesthetic of its rooms softened by weathered wooden cabinets, traditional mosaic flooring and some superb old Spanish hospitality from the hotel’s owner, Estela.
Once a pilgrim’s hostel, the recent high-spec renovation ensures La Maga Rooms is one of the best spots to explore a stunning part of Spain influenced as much by the Islamic legacy of the Moors as it is by traditional Spanish culture. Head to this quirky, unique hotel and you could be lazing back in your freestanding bathtub, looking out past the polished concrete flooring, Baroque mirror and contemporary artwork towards the castle in the mountains, still standing imposing and impressive after more than a thousand years of turbulent local history.
How to Get There
We visiting la maga rooms for one night in June. It’s a fab place to stay. Literally right next to the road to the castle & in a lovely little street just a short walk from the main bars & restaurants. Estela was fabulous & spoke brilliant English. She talked us through a map of the town & recommended places to visit & eat. Accommodation was very clean & spacious. I’d totally recommend la maga rooms & Xativa is totally worth a visit if your looking for history & somewhere typically Spanish.
It was a little difficult to find the hotel, but if you follow the signs to the castle you will end up very near by.
The hotel is situated at the foot of the hill where the castle stands on top.
It is not always easy to find a parking place, but we were lucky that we could park in front of the hotel on a small elevated parking place. If you arrive before five o'clock there will be a place.
The rooms are nicely furnished, modern style and the beds are very comfortable.
When we were there, they did not serve breakfast, but we had our breakfast 40 mtrs away from the hotel in a small but lovely bakery.
The lady who gave us a warm welcome was nice and helpful.
Xativa is a lovely place to stay, with a lovely historic centre.
also when you want to pay a visit to Valencia that is only 45 kms away.
What a lovely stay! Friendly hotel owner and nice high-tech room, just perfect for us 2 plus baby. The place is near all the good spots to dine or have a evening walk in the beautiful city Xativa. Would come back.
Nice place with original feeling to each room. The parking is tight so you will have to find a space nearby but ask & they you be pointed to a space hearby the castle. I was there in the week & there wasn't that many places to eat at the evening
We only stayed for 1 night as we were passing through Xativa as a rest stop on a long journey north but the La Maga rooms and Xativa itself are most definitely on the short list of places we intend on visiting again for a more prolonged stay!
Set between the imposing Castle of Xàtiva and picturesque Old Town, the beautifully designed La Maga Rooms finds its idyllic location. The chic minimalist design of the Hotel is apparent as soon as you enter the reception exemplified by the beautifully unique tree-like sculpture used to hang the room keys behind the desk.
The wonderful Estella welcomed us to the hotel and talked us through a map of the area and advised expertly on the best places to eat and the best way to utilize our short time in Xativa.
Our room was nothing short of amazing! From the beautiful polished concrete floors to the floating staircase that led up to the mezzanine where the bed and walk in shower were located; the design detail of the room was absolutely marvelous.
I could not recommend the La Maga Rooms more!
