A grand Luxembourg stay in a lovingly restored chateau, including breakfast, spa access and extras
Enjoying a peaceful countryside setting, just outside the fascinating medieval town of Cherveaux in the Duchy of Luxembourg, Chateau d’Urspelt makes an impressively grand statement. Painstakingly restored to its former 18th-century glory over three years by hundreds of skilled craftsmen, it’s a true labour of love. Once almost lost after the Second World War, when it was occupied by American servicemen, today it’s classed as a national monument. Its present splendour is all due the efforts of genial owner and visionary Freddy Lodomez, who offers a warm personal welcome along with his family.
Drive up its elm-lined drive to be greeted by fairytale turrets and an immaculate cream exterior. Enter through its impressive arched portico via a graceful inner courtyard to an elegant lobby, setting the scene for a truly special stay. Cosy up by a roaring open fire in one of its welcoming lounges or take advantage of 21st-century additions, such as two private spas. Rooms are equally appealing, individually decorated with creamy hues and designer fabrics. Add to this a sleek vaulted restaurant serving sumptuous dinners and you have all you need for a memorable stay. For all this and more Chateau d’Urspelt has been awarded a TripAdvisor Travellers’ Choice Award 2016.
