How to Get There
Truly one of the best hotel experiences we have had! All of the staff were motivated to making sure that we had everything that we needed. Our kids had a specialized check-in just for them, which they loved and we haven't seen anywhere else before. The hotel is mere minutes from the Old Town city center, and there's even a playground across the street for the kids to have fun. Matsuhisa restaurant is a fantastic fusion of Japanese and Peruvian cuisine; make sure you try out the Black Cod, one of the best seafood dishes we've ever had! Ultimately we had an incredible time at the Mandarin Oriental and hope to be back soon!
The Mandarin Oriental is beautiful as always. The ambience, the service, all were absolutely amazing. The accessibility and all that was provided was clean, fast and precise. Room service was amazing. The Matsuhisa restaurant however was a bit under my standards as the staff seemed a bit overwhelmed with wrong orders and slight mistakes. Considering it was Oktoberfest, I was already lucky that they were doing their job! Of course the Mandarin Oriental is expensive to many but I would say it's worth it for the luxurious experience. Will be coming back again.
Returned to the Mandarin on a business trip. Despite pre-paying for our hotel rooms, we were told that our rooms were not available for our stay. Other arriving guests were given rooms, but we were told ours were “not available”.
The hotel is the best in Munich, that is why I have stayed there several times in the last few years.
But never again will I or anyone in my company stay here, or in any Mandarin property. I traveled to Munich last week along with the company CEO. Upon arrival we were told our rooms were not available but a different hotel was available for us. We had already paid for the rooms directly with the Mandarin, and the hotel was providing other arriving guests with rooms, the situation made no sense, and all the manager kept repeating was “I understand”. For us, the biggest issue was time, we had meetings to get to and did not have the time to fight for our reserved/paid rooms and to be shuttled to another hotel. 2 weeks prior, the hotel called us to confirm our reservation and request a Credit Card to pre-pay, which was not a problem. YES, THE HOTEL CHARGED MY CARD 2 WEEKS PRIOR. They should have called us again to let us know of the issue and save us the time and indignity of being turned away and treated so badly. Had they called us and explained the situation we would not have lost any time, we could have gone straight to the other property and said "see you next time, Mandarin".
We have stayed at this hotel many times in the past , and at other Mandarin properties all over the world. I really cannot understand why the manager decided to treat us in this way. They did not want us in their hotel, and they wanted us to know that. They could have called or emailed, but they decided to handle it in this way to embarrass us. There is no apology or excuse for the treatment we received that can fix what occurred. Traveler Beware, Reservations mean NOTHING to this hotel manager. If he does not like your country of origin, race, or religion, you too could be denied rooms.
