Munich, capital of Bavaria, is a high-tech hub and home to the world-famous Oktoberfest and its Christmas market. It also has all the qualities German cities are famous for – it’s clean, safe, organized and filled with museums, theaters, opera houses and elegant restaurants – yet it’s also known for a distinct vibe not found in every German city. As a European center for art, music, architecture and science, it’s worth a visit for more than just the beer (though trust us, the brews are as good as they say).
Sleeping over in its coolest district – Glockenbach – with a stay at H’Otello B’01 is a great way to explore Germany’s unofficial southern capital. Here, the hip city seamlessly blends with peaceful spaces and sleek interiors, creating the perfect urban base. In the morning, pull up a wooden chair in the breakfast room, and you’ll be rewarded with a buffet selection of hot and cold international classics. After a day of sightseeing, the airy lounge, with its banquet seating and designer furnishings, provides an intimate space to enjoy a cocktail – or one of those beers.
Good to know
To experience Munich as its most magical, treat yourself to a stay between November 27 and December 24, when the city comes alive with bustling Bavarian Christmas markets, twinkling fairy lights and steaming mugs of Gluhwien.
Contemporary lines and understated elegance form the design brief in the rooms at H’Otello B’01; enjoy their muted Vescom wallpaper, parquet floors and Samsung entertainment system. In keeping with the personality of the hotel’s cool Glockenbach district location, you’ll find all the usual gadgets here, along with a few luxury extras.
In keeping with its cool, contemporary design, H’Otello B’01 calls Munich’s hippest district, Glockenbach, home. When you’re not enjoying the nearby café culture and designer boutiques, you’ll find the Isar River just around the corner and the perfect place for sunbathing, a quiet stroll or even bike tour.
How to Get There
Stayed here for two nights and found the hotel to be comfortable and located in the centre of the city.
Only downside was lack of air con with in the heat of summer meant we needed a fan on during the night.
Breakfast at the hotel is typical German/continental style.
Would stay here again as the location made getting around very easy and is located right by Isartor station for easy access to the airport on the S8 line.
Let's start with the staff - who were friendly and helpful. And the hotel is in a pretty decent location if you want to be able to walk to / around the older part of Munich. Why the 2 star rating? First was my surprise that there was no air conditioning (which I thought should have been clearly shown on their website - which is how I booked). There was standing fan - which of course helped. The window opened very minimally however - so it was tough to get air in while cool at night. After the toilet was flushed, it would (more often than not), flush a second time. The staff member showed me how to take the cover off the flush button so I could fix it myself (basically, the equivalent of 'jiggling' the handle). I also felt it strange that I was asked to pay at check-in for 'my convenience' - I have never seen that before. For care products, they provide 1 small tube of soap and 1 small tube of combination shower gel / shampoo. I ran out of the soap each day.
The hotel felt clean and staff were friendly. However, the room was tiny and did not match the £181/night that I paid for- no a/c in the room but a noisy fan. I didn’t look into TripAdvisor when making the booking as the hotel was pretty central but judging by some of the replies by management I would advise to change the approach to a friendlier tone. All sounds a bit passive aggressive. I would recommend this hotel but £130/night will be more than enough for what you get.
As a single business traveler, I appreciate when the Hotel only provides one towel, instead of catering towels for 2 people.
The rooms have all the basic and practical amenities that a business traveler needs (and a holiday traveler).
There is no fridge in the room, but the hotel staff were kind enough to store my small snacks I keep ready before heading out to meetings.
This hotel was recommended to me by a colleage from Koln that regularly stays at this hotel when working in Munich.
My room was small but very clean and cozzy. Breakfast buffet was good. Staff was very friendly.
