Expected better
Reviewed 9 hours ago

I have stayed at other Riu resorts and expected a Palace resort to be exceptional. Sadly, I was disappointed.

The decor was part Roman/Greek bathhouse and part gaudy brothel. Some staff were friendly while others could care less if they waited on me. The room was clean but minor inconsistencies- trash wasn't changed daily; towels were forgotten or stained. The food was good but limited in variety- ie 3-4 types of potatoes: mashed, fries, baked at one meal service. Shrimp served in the shell in sauces- sloppy trying to remove the shells.

I have a Riu club card and usually receive a Welcome gift but not from this resort. Overall, I'm glad I didn't pay full price for the room because it isn't worth the money.

Excellent Resort

The ease of check in & check out was great. The staff were very friendly, attentive & helpful at all times. The resort was impeccable. Lots of variety of food. Pool is beautiful & very large. Access to beach is just a few short steps away.

Just OK

We have stayed at several Riu’s and this one was just ok! Usually the best food is at the “a la cart” restaurants but not this time. The buffet was decent but usual. A la carts simply sucked and room service was limited. You have to ask for a specific vodka or you will get crap. Rooms were good and clean and ALL the staff was AMAZING! No complaints about the service, except the spa. If you are Canadian, you must fly with Sunwing which was disappointing for MANY reasons. We had plus seats and there was NO PERKS! We will never stay at a Riu again just for the fact that we would have to fly with them. For a 5*, 5 of the 7 cardio machines did not work, REALLY? Too many other complaints to mention. All the Riu’s in Vallarta are in desperate need of renovation . 😬

Family visit

Stayed here for the first week in May for our grand daughter,s birthday and our wedding anniversary it is a beautiful resort with great staff and good food. We had a great time and felt we we treated respectfully by the super friendly staff. The beach wasn't the best but we had a fun time in the waves . It was a nice touch to see the grandchild get some special treats in her room on her birthday. We had a wonderful time and would return in the future

Rooms with little beds
Reviewed 3 days ago

We reserved a room for 3 adults. When we got there, the room was not suitable for 3 adults, because there was one king bed. When we asked them to give us a room for 3 adults, they only separated the beds. The beds were not queen size, but smaller. So, we asked for another bed. They brought in a little bed that only a kid could sleep. Basically, three of us were jammed into this room and could not have a good night sleep. Then our phone chargers got burned when charging and my Iphone stopped working. I had to get a new phone on return. The food and food service were great. Overall, the hotel is very beautiful and people are very nice. But they need to work on their amenities and install surge protection in the rooms. Their night entertainment is substandard with nothing interesting. Day entertainment is good. There is a property on the next lot that is under construction and there is noise coming, which was not disclosed to us.
