Colorado has a lot of ski resorts, but when it comes to recreating the genteel ambience of Europe’s legendary alpine haunts, Vail, with its pedestrian-friendly village, pitched-roof chalets and cobbled streets, takes the cake. Marriott Vail Mountain Resort & Spa keeps the Euro-vibes coming with a Bavarian style, though with 344 guestrooms on seven floors, it’s hardly a chalet. On-site Golden Leaf Spa is a relaxing spot for healing after a day on the slopes and 7one5 restaurant serves modern American cuisine in a relaxed and sophisticated setting.
In the Area
What? You don’t want to ski? No problem, Vail’s mountaintop playground offers alternative activities such as tubing, snowshoeing, bungee trampolining and ski biking. The Vail Golf Club, usually home to an 18-hole golf course at 8,200 feet, morphs into the Vail Nordic Center in the winter, where the Nordic sports of cross-country skiing and snowshoeing offer serenity from the slopes. Either way you slice it, you’ll get amazing views of Vail’s Gore Range. If you are a skier, Vail’s famous Back Bowls are 3,000 acres of wide-open, mostly ungroomed terrain cherished by snowriders. Get on the mountain early, and work up an appetite for lunch at Two Elk, a soaring timber lodge at 11,240 feet with views of the Gore Range and a great burger. Après ski, store your skis and head to Pepi’s for a drink, then wander around Vail’s pedestrian-friendly village, styled like an Austrian ski town.
How to Get There
Lovely rooms, and the staff were very friendly. Love that they have bottle filling stations throughout venue. Not cheap! Had to valet the rental car. The bar was a great place for us to meet up for drinks in the evening before we went out "on the town". I think we hit the peak of Aspen season as well. The mountains were SO vibrant with the dark green pines and the golden aspens. And the sky was crystal blue that week.
The Vail Marriott Mountain Resort is an outstanding place to stay in the mountains. The staff are kind, responsive and incredible. The gym facility was brand new and beautiful (there was even a heavy bag!)
Stayed 3 nights for work reason. Absolutely clean, nice, updated and pleasant. Loved settings, nice check in staff. Beds are comfortable, food is good in restaurants. some staff can rent for free (like bike, scooter) Would stay there again.
