Directly opposite the world’s tallest building and the world’s largest mall, the Taj Dubai is a luxe high-rise in the heart of downtown Dubai. The rooms and suites are done in soothing neutral tones, with hand-made furniture, hand-painted Indian artworks and floor-to-ceiling windows. For more space and comfort, book a Junior Suite; the extra features include walk-in wardrobes, a separate living room and an extra-wide kingsize bed. The marble bathrooms come with a tub and twin sinks. Take your pick of four restaurants: light snacks and cocktails at the Byzantium Lounge; authentic Peruvian cuisine at Tesoro; gastro pub–style fare at the Eloquent Elephant; and Indian specialties at Bombay Brasserie. Cool off by the outdoor pool or indulge with the signature Thaqthia amiqa treatment (an exfoliating scrub followed by relaxation massage) at the Jiva spa.
In the Area
No visit to Dubai is complete without a trip to the observation deck of the Burj Khalifa. At 2,722 feet, the building is more than twice the height of the Empire State Building. Just next door, the Dubai Mall is an enormous shopping complex with more than 1,200 stores and 120 restaurants. And don’t leave the city without first experiencing an Evening Desert Safari. Try your hand at sandboarding and camel riding; then witness a traditional belly dancing show under the glittering desert stars.
How to Get There
This is an excellent hotel! It is high quality, clean, and staff is very attentive and client oriented. We stayed in a Junior suite, which was large enough to comfortably accommodate for a family with two teenage boys (they slept on a sofa). The hotel website doesn’t cheat with making extra-wide angle picture to make rooms look bigger, our room actually was what it looked like in the picture.
A nice thing about suits is that one gets access to Taj Club Lounge, meaning that you can take breakfast there with nice service and no crowd or waiting to be seated, and there is a happy hour in the lounge from 6pm to 8pm during which you can get decent snacks (well, my boys snacked enough to not to need a dinner afterwards) and a reasonable selection of drinks (both alcoholic and non-alcoholic) for free. Choose Taj Club room if you do not want to go for a full suite, it comes with the lounge access and this little extra is worth it.
The hotel has a spa with sauna and stream bath (separate for men and women). Again, it is clean, with attentive staff. I must give extra thumbs up to the spa crew. I went to sauna and it was only +65C. I asked if in can be made full flavor, and they indeed made it +90C! No hotel has ever done it for me before Taj, the others usually keep with their sauna policies and do not make this extra step to satisfy an individual client. There is also water that you can pour on the stones. Even more, I was a few minutes late to get out of the sauna (closing time), but the guy at the reception was telling there is no rush, I could stay longer if I wanted to. This is what you call client service!
The hotel is close to the Burj Khalifa Tower. On the map it looks like a comfortable walking distance, but as is customary on the Arabic peninsula the area is made car friendly, not pedestrian friendly. No worries though, the taxis are reasonably priced, and probably the best way to get around in Dubai. For a ride from Taj hotel to Dubai Mall (the biggest mall in Dubai and some sources say also the biggest in the world, and actually connected to Burj Khalifa) I paid something between 12 and 15 dirham, it’s like 3-4$. There is an ample supply of taxis waiting just in front of the hotel door, all have counters and with very few exceptions you can usually pay by credit card.
The only little minus — the hotel is on the expensive side. On the other hand, you do not go to Dubai to save money, but rather to see something that can be called extraordinary. And extraordinary it is.
A touch of your own culture thousands of miles away always brings happiness to me. Taj Dubai is one of those few places where I felt like I was home. To start, Taj has continued to maintain its aura oversees and this is evident by the look and feel of the hotel and the communication with the staff. Taj Dubai is located in downtown, very close to the Burj Khalifa (they have Burj facing rooms, I have also attached a picture) and the Dubai Mall and it would actually make sense to walk to these locations than wait and travel in a cab (if weather permits).
The hospitality is on point and the hotel made an effort to communicate with me once or twice before my stay to know my preferences and time of check in. I had booked a normal deluxe room with city view which to my surprise was upgraded to the Burj Khalifa view room at my arrival. This gesture is highly appreciated. Also, there was no problem requesting for a late check out, the staff was accommodating and supportive.
If you are staying here and you definitely should, you need to check out Billionaires Mansion. It is a high end dining restaurant with a night club. Its one of the best and top rated places in Dubai for nightlife. The hotel also has an Indian restaurant and a rooftop bar (Treehouse).
Overall, Taj Dubai is a great property with many entertainment options and excellent staff. Cant wait to book my stay here again
We had the best honeymoon ever staying at the Taj. Special thanks to the door man John for helping us with setting up tours and providing valuable tips during our stay. The customer service and friendly staff made us feel right at home. Thanks again and we will be back in a few years.
The day we arrived was my birthday, they help us check early and upgraded our room. The front desk staffs are so professional and friendly. There’s also the shuttle bus to Dubai mall and other It is the best choice in Dubai.
I stayed at Taj Dubai for four days with my wife and baby. My requests of a baby crib and early check-in were met by the team and we were warmly welcomed to the property.
The room with the city view was simply stunning in design, cleanliness and availability of amenities. I’d like to mention a special thanks to housekeeping. Also a special thanks to the Tesoro restaurant team members Raneesh, Raleena, Sideeq and Mendy for the friendly and welcoming service provided at breakfast during our short stay. The breakfast buffet included a wide selection of items especially Indian breakfast dishes provided at live counters.
I recommend Taj Dubai without a speck of doubt.
