How to Get There
We have been for the first time in Shangri-La Abu Dhabi for 3 days and it has been the greatest time in Emirates, the hotel is in a really good location plus the staff is always taking care of the guest. We would like to mention that Turk in reservations helped us a lot and Deirdre and Pooch in Horizon Club were terrific!! We definitely recommend the hotel and would like to come back soon!!
Food was a let down, it looked better than it tasted most definitely. However great service from staff who were very accommodating. Shame about the food and the hotel itself is beautiful. I am all for fine dining but this was not worth it for me.
My stay at Shangri La Qaryat Al Beri - Abu Dhabi was excellent! I chose to stay here because of all the positive reviews I read from here, and the hotel is also listed as one of the best hotels in Abu Dhabi - and yes - the hotel lived up to my expectations from the moment I step in the reception for check-in till I check-out.
I got a Premium King Room facing the famous Grand Mosque. My room was on the 4th floor (Room 439). Room is very clean, and it does smell good. I was impressed by "ALL" of the staff within the hotel, and I want to highlight this on my review as they were very attentive. Specially to Ms. Zen of the reception who handled all our queries about the hotel, and Suman from the pool area.
Souk Qaryat is nearby which you can access by walking or by riding the Abra. The hotel has 2 main pools which is open from 6am - 8pm and there is one small pool in the Health Club that all in-guests can access for free which is open till 11pm. Breakfast is until 10:30am and they served variety of dishes during the breakfast, special thanks to the "lady chef" serving in the dessert area, who keeps on recommending me which desserts should I try.
Overall, I would recommend this hotel for people who wants to relax, to experience comfort and luxury hotel service from a brand that is known worldwide, from "ALL" hotel staffs that are very kind and hospitable.
I will certainly be staying here again.
My parents booked for us to stay in the Shangri-La in Abu Dhabi for my husband's 30th birthday (thinking it was a nice, reputable, five star hotel) and it was nice to a certain extent but I definitely didn't feel it was 5 star, or as special as some of the others we had stayed in in Abu Dhabi.
I guess the hotel is good for families as it had a large pool area, beach and activities taking place in the hotel during the daytime, but as far as romance goes, I wouldn't tick that box. It kind of reminded us of an all-inclusive type holiday (without the all-inclusive benefits). The rooms were OK but a bit drab and dated, they had nice balconies with a sea-front view in most of the hotel rooms.
There were nice views of the famous Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque from the beach front and there were some nice shops and restaurants located in the souk attached to the hotel, however that was just about all this hotel had to offer.
We dined in the Sheng Palace on site in the hotel and the food was dire, it was one of the worst Chinese meals I've ever had, the meat was so fatty that we had to send it back and ask for a refund. The breakfast buffet was OK, but nobody seemed to know what was going on and I had to wait almost 25 mins for an omelette as the queue was so big and they only had one man serving.
Heading to the pool or beach at the hotel during the day is a chore in itself. If you're a late riser, don't count on getting a sun-lounger by the pool (or even on the beach) as people wake up early to place their towels on the beds (yes, the hotel actually let them do this!) Not only that but there are only maximum, 30 sun loungers around the pool (and for the size of this hotel that is most definitely not enough). We headed down to the pool at around 11am and were told to try the beach as the loungers by the pool were taken (some of them remained empty all day with nothing but a towel on them which a guest had clearly reserved but not used), when we reached the beach they just about scraped together two sun-loungers that were pretty much in the shade. We weren't very impressed.
Overall, we had an OK stay but we wouldn't head back in a hurry.
Stayed here only for 1 night en route to Anantara desert resort. This is a beautiful facility and the views of the great mosque are mesmerizing. Room was just gorgeous.. the buffet dinner worth every penny- so elegant with ice sculptures and lots of variety in food.. There are many cute little shops throughout the resort.. Pools are fantastic too. Very reasonable price. Wish we stayed longer.
