NOT a five star hotel. Period.

When we arrived on Nov. 5th, it was raining pretty hard. Our car driver was great and helped us with our bags as there was no doorman or bellman at the hotel door. I thought that was odd, but we went in and there was no one in the lobby except for a woman at the front desk. It was around 6:30 p.m. The front desk woman (named Eva) told me we had chosen a bad time to come because the weather forecast was bad. The following also happened:

No dresser for clothes in our upgraded room and I had to call two times for hangers as the closet only had four;
Very thin blankets and pillows on the beds, I called for extra blankets. The ones that were delivered were tired and worn.
The door to our room did not close properly by itself, once we almost left without noticing.
I had the very distinct feeling we were alone or almost alone in the hotel; the first floor rooms (saw when I used the stairs) were all open and under construction, with equipment everywhere including paint, dropclothes, etc.
No bottled water offered or in the room.
Breakfast was very poor quality with stale bread, many prepackaged treats, etc. We ate little and had a bigger lunch elsewhere;
Shower in the room was so small that I barely fit in it without touching the walls. I am 5’4” and petite. My 5'10" daughter did not want to try the shower.
On the second morning we were seated next to the men working on the first floor at breakfast who were eating in their construction gear, it was very inappropriate.
The music playing on the radio in the dining room was continually skipping and no staff even noticed.
Staff in the dining room did not speak English and brought us the wrong drinks as a result, not something you would expect in a 5 star hotel.
When we went out, the front desk gave us 2 umbrellas at my request. One was broken (discovered when I was halfway down the street and opened it when it started to rain), so of course I was soaked. When I returned, I told the front desk person it needed to be thrown out. I later saw it still back in the bin for the next guest's use. I again pointed it out but later I saw it there again.
The lobby has an old, stale smell to it.
The rooms, lobby and hallway all have the same smell. I understand that this is an “old-style” hotel. I like that usually, but this hotel needs serious renovation and cleaning. It is understaffed and underwhelming.

We left early after two nights. When I told the front desk about my concerns, she said “you still have to pay” (that was the first thing out of her mouth), instead of asking me what was wrong. The staff person then told me that I should wait to talk to the manager (a person named Chaira Ziarelli) because she came in at 9:15. We were being picked up at 9:00 a.m. for tours of the region so we did not wait, but I asked her to ask the manager to email or call me. No one did.

The best hotel in Perugia.

Location is perfect. The internal decoration is as it should be in such a hotel. Nice spacious rooms. Very friendly employees. Breakfast is very good as are lunch and dining options in the restaurant. In summary we highly recommend this hotel.

Old Style Classy Hotel

I was extremely satisfied with my stay at Sina Brufani! When I arrived late on Saturday night the staff surprised me with an upgrade to a larger suite with a balcony overlooking the city! So beautiful! The room was huge! Old & ornate with high ceilings, a separate bedroom and a massage bathroom with marble floors & white finishes. Quite lovely! The staff was friendly & helpful. I also had a chance to go to their pool/ whirlpool which is underground. Very unique & relaxing. The hotel is in a great location especially during the Chocolate Fest which was right outside the front door. Restaurants & shopping nearby. Very quiet at night too.
I would definitely recommend!
