How to Get There
Pluses: The Relais degli Angeli staff was great, they followed through brilliantly on making our requested restaurant reservations in the weeks before we arrived. The common areas are nice, especially the great little breakfast terrace. The breakfast was lovely. We had their basic room (Perla), which was clean, spacious and had a wonderful modern bathroom. Location is perfect - you'll be able to walk to anything in Siena easily.
Considerations: Note that there are two flights of stairs (or a very tiny elevator) to get to reception. You will manage your own bags. Noise might be problem - be it a Contrade celebration or the bus station right outside - the windows are not insulated. Our room also had a broken air conditioner (though the staff was very apologetic and kindly provided fans plus bottle of wine for the inconvenience). It was problematic on a warm night w/ outside noise and mosquitos, where opening windows wasn't an option.
On balance a nice option in the 3-start hotel category. Well located, with a thoughtful staff, great bathrooms and overall a cute hotel with nice character.
We loved our stay! The location is close enough to everything we wanted to see in Siena. The rooms are pleasant and beautifully painted, with fresh and spacious marble bathrooms. Our air conditioner was really just a fan, and didn't cool no matter what we set it on, so we did have to open windows a lot. That was an issue since the inn is right over a bus station, with constant loud traffic and crowd noise, especially on weekends. We booked a room with a balcony, which we used daily for aperitivo. The door to it, however, was outside the door of our room. No problem for access though. Breakfast was excellent. They put a lot of work into it every day. And who doesn't love a double espresso on the balcony every morning. Driving through the restricted zone is complicated, but you can bring your luggage and packages to the door. The women at the desk were very patient in instructing us. You will love Siena!
The location is convenient and there is a bus stop nearby. Old town is nearby.
Security is perfect.
The room cleaning and the toiletries were replenished, Especially the toilet paper was changed every day.
The breakfast staff feels good and the menu is reasonable.
The lady from the reception on the first day taught me the recommended restaurants and sightseeing spots.
The stairs are slippery.
There is no porter. The lady at the reception did not carry any my luggage. The same applies when checking out.
When I talked to a woman at the reception on the 3rd day because a problem with the air conditioner in the room, She interrupted the conversation without listening to my story. And she makes the guest wait. I solved the problem of air conditioning, but even if I consulted her, her tone was severe and I thought this was an angel hotel. The woman can work as a manager, but I didn't think she was an angelic goddess who welcomed guests very much.
I want to give a higher overall rating, but this has resulted in three rate.
When I checked out, she told me to "Come again", but if I want her to come again, I want her to be a "Dolce Angeli".
