The Lowdown

Perfect for style-lovers seeking a cultural kick, Hotel Ilaria & Residenza dell’Alba is a unique four-star boutique hotel in the Tuscan city of Lucca. Comprised of a 14th-century church and the former stables of the 16th-century Villa Bottini, the property is lovingly restored and supremely elegant. The tastefully appointed guest rooms have cozy beds, tiled and glass en-suite bathrooms and all the mod cons, while the split-level (and more splurge-worthy) suites, inside of the historic towers that are in front of the main building, come with dressing rooms, Jacuzzi baths and a lot more living space.
When it comes to Tuscan cities, lovely Lucca may be lesser-known than its more glamorous neighbors, but the so-called City of 100 Churches is one of the country’s most cherished spots for staking out Renaissance architecture and historic monuments. Days can be spent cycling around the city’s walled perimeter, visiting the tiny churches and art galleries, and gazing up in awe at Torre Guinigi (Guinigi Tower) that’s unexpectedly topped with a garden of oak trees. Equally visit-worthy is the Duomo San Martino that houses Volto Santo, the wooden crucifix that Nicodemus believed was carved by an angel.

a very bad experience ...
a jump in the past of 150 years

dirty, partly rude in part unprepared, parking a real scam ...
600 euros per night during the Lucca Comics, an authentic robbery!

the owner / manager has forgotten what hospitality means 150 years ago probably when he carried out the last jobs in his Hotel .. a really irritating person ..

Perfect Hotel

This hotel is in an incredible city. The staff was so helpful with dinner reservations and concert tickets. We loved the afternoon gatherings meeting other guest.
We left our train reservations and they faxed them to our hotel in Florence.
Many thanks to a wonderful staff!

More hotels should be like this.

On the fringe of the intense inner city H Ilaria enjoys space, light and air and offers tranquility and convenience in a very friendly and casual way. Handy for taxis, station, and walking into the heart of the city.
The help yourself ( breakfast ) buffet with coffee and beer (Prosecco after 5) is a great idea.especially when taken up onto the terrace. It makes feeling at home very easy in a very sustainable way. Congratulations.
The foyer and lounge areas are very smart and comfortable and well used as small rooms have limited seating. Rooms are adequate and beautifully finished with dark hardwood. Our bathroom needed updating however.
Breakfast though offering a fair choice was sadly a bit lacklustre and obviously constrained by lack of space. Service was lovely and efficient.
Despite minor niggles HI is just the right sort of hotel for a short break in lovely Lucca and we hope to return. Oh and it’s close to Bottega Gelato. Two reasons to go back! Thank you Ilaria and everyone for making us so welcome.
