Recently-restored grand dame housed in a Brunelleschi-designed palace with a fleet of Bentleys for exploring Florence at the ready

The Look

With its superb location along the Arno River and stunning setting inside a 15th century, Filippo Brunelleschi designed palace, guests are privy to the best of Florence. Inside, the lobby lounge, dining rooms and bar in the Winter Garden have been expertly renovated; stained glass ceilings, beautifully detailed woodwork, and locally found and restored antiques add to the hotel’s already regal air. The 100 guestrooms and suites follow suit, with vaulted or coffered ceilings and immense frescos.

Bed and Bath

Interior design in St. Regis’ guestrooms and suites plays on Florence’s classic renaissance and Medici styles: coffered ceilings, big bold wall frescos and brocades. The color schemes are equally bold and enticing, with some suites dressed in deep red fabric, others awash in shades of blue, silver and purple. Bathrooms are clean, spacious and clad in marble. Royal suites are essentially antique troves, and designed to reflect the court of the Medici family: lavish, gilt and flamboyant details fill the room. The hotel’s Bottega Veneta suite is designed by Bottega Veneta Creative Director, Tomas Maier, and has a more subdued modern tone to its clean furnishings, fixtures and fabrics.

Luxury services abound. Apart from the hotel’s famous 24-hour butler service (a consistent service at all St. Regis’ worldwide) the Florence outpost includes a fleet of new Bentleys that guests can reserve prior to or during their stay. The Bentley experience, as it’s called, offers airport pickups from all surrounding national airports as far south as Naples and as far north as Milan. Full and half-day Bentley services are also on offer for guests to explore the beautiful countryside and hill towns of Tuscany. And, once you’re back at the hotel, splurge-worthy treatments at the in-house spa by beauty company Clarins makes it easy to unwind.

In the Area

The St. Regis is located in Florence’s beautiful historic center, which means top attractions like the Ponte Vecchio and Uffizi Gallery are a five-minute stroll away, as are new and fascinating cultural hot spots like the Gucci Museum and Palazzo Strozzi. For unforgettable (albeit pricey) three-Michelin-star dining, snag a reservation at Enoteca Pinchiorri situated in a Renaissance palazzo; or pick a low key local trattoria, like il Santo Bevitore or Trattoria la Casalinga. Work off your meal with a stroll through the vast, gorgeous green swathes of the Boboli Gardens, home to a collection of sculptures dating from the 16th through the 18th centuries.

Beautiful Property, Excellent Service

We stayed here for 5 nights in May. Our stay exceeded my expectations in every way. This is an incredibly beautiful, stunning hotel from the lobby to the rooms. We were upgraded to a larger room with a balcony overlooking the town. The bathroom was spacious and gorgeous and we soaked in the tub on most nights. The bed was very comfortable and we never heard other guests. Every morning the butler would bring us wake up cappuccinos and we ate most mornings at the buffet breakfast (it was included as an amenity b/c of our Platinum status). The breakfast has an omelet station, hot and cold buffet and the waffles alone deserve mention. We had a nice drink at the Winter Garden Bar to watch the champagne sabering ceremony and it is such an elegant, fun atmosphere. Everyone we came in contact with- housekeeping, waiters, concierge, bellman- all showed us exceptional service. I felt really taken care of. Also, the location is fantastic. We walked everywhere and felt very safe at night. We also stayed at the St. Regis in Rome and this property outshines Rome in all categories. Florence is such a beautiful city- make time for a visit during your trip to Italy.

Please stay at ANY OTHER ST. REGIS. Just not this one.

This is my first and only hotel complaint I've ever had in my years of visiting fantastic luxury hotels. Please do yourself a favour and stay at any other St. Regis (I recommend Rome).

Despite what I've heard regarding impeccable service, we received the opposite. We were made to feel uncomfortable. The butler service is unreliable, confusing and misrepresented. A vast distinction from its counterpart in Rome.

The hotel will nickel and dime for every penny. They will charge a 15 euro fee for processing train tickets. We received a 10 euro standard fee for stepping foot in a taxi arranged by the concierge. The taxi driver was adamant the fee is added because the hotel called. 1500$ hotel room and you are paying dollars to arrange taxis and tickets? Completely unacceptable for the St. Regis brand.

The wifi didn't work if two people were sitting beside each other. I had to work in the lobby while my wife worked in our suite in order for us to both use the wifi.

When you compare the St. Regis Rome to the Florence location, it seems to be two entirely different hotels running under a different brand. We will not be returning to the St. Regis Florence. Please please please do yourself a favour and go elsewhere.

My wife, my adult daughter, and I stayed five nights and have nothing but the highest compliments for the St Regis Florence. The room, the staff, the spa, and restaurant were all fantastic. If I’m back in Florence, there is no question where I will be staying. Truly a wonderful experience.

A very special stay

Hotel is so beautiful and in a great location. Close to the main train station. Petra, the butler was very helpful and greeted us warmly. The hotel manager Domenico has a passion for hotel that can be felt throughout. We had massages in the spa that we a wonderful way to help with the jet lag. I am returning to this hotel in September and I am very much looking forward to my stay.

most beautiful hotel in Florence

We thought that The St. Regis New York was one of the best, most gorgeous & luxurious hotels that we've ever stayed. But it wasn't true and we changed our mind to give the St. Regis Florence the highest score.

And plus, the tall butler & concierges were really friendly, nice & attentive. Our room was clean, romantic and like a princess room. And bedsides, it has a beautiful view of the Arno river and the Ponte Vecchio. We were so happy with it.
