How to Get There
Every person at the Savoy is so well chosen and well trained it is amazing. From Vittorio's warm and sincere welcome at the front desk, the doorman, and every waiter in their restaurant Irene, we felt at home and appreciated. Being gluten free, it was important to me that the kitchen understand my gluten intolerance. Non è problema! The chef is aware of cross contamination issues and always provided safe food that was also absolutely delicious. The atmosphere in the hotel is a refuge from the craziness of overtourism in Florence and we appreciated coming back to the calm. Beautiful flower arrangements are changed often. The morning breakfast choices are top notch and beautifully displayed. Cheeses, meats, salmon, yogurts, fruits, breads and cakes, sweet tomatoes, in addition to a long list of things from the kitchen,...pancakes, eggs anyway, bacon,,,,and of course. delicious gluten free bread made in house. In the room to welcome us was a beautiful plate of fruit that was actually perfectly ripened, not hard as a rock as I often find. The bed is as cozy as can be and has delicious sheets. The room was very quiet, which is amazing in Florence. I can compare the Savoy to another hotel in Florence that is supposedly five star, stylish and certainly expensive, but my time there was not acceptable. From now on, my home in Florence will be at The Savoy.
The hotel is in a lovely location and I would suggest a room off the piazza if you prefer a more quiet ambiance. It's close to the train station, which is nice. The hotel is very nice although I would rate it closer to a 4 star than 5 stars. My stepmother and I had to move rooms because of the bed that was so old that I slid off my side of the bed. The staff was slow to respond but once the correct person responded there was action. It was unfortunate we had to relocate rooms. The beds in the second room weren't comfortable but much better! The staff in the restaurant was attentive and fun. The room was nicely furnished.
The hotel is beautiful, as are the rooms. We had a balcony overlooking the piazza, where musicians serenaded us every afternoon and evening. We sat outside at the hotel restaurant, Irene's, and enjoyed breakfast as well as cocktails in the evening. The entire staff was so helpful and kind to a newcomer to their country. Very friendly all the time. Wonderful amenities for guests. Just a fabulous place to stay!
We stopped for lunch outside knowing it is a bit expensive here at the Savoy but then again all the restaurants on the Piazza Republican are expensive. We ordered two salads and wine. The salads were fantastic and they brought over two uncut tomatoes with olive oil and balsamic with knife. We cut the tomatoes up and drizzled the olive oil and balsamic over them and indulged with the fresh bread. I would have been happy with just the wine and tomatoes. It was worth the money.
Everything about The Savoy spells excellence, from the location to the décor to the amenities to the food and service, but far and away the most memorable thing that sets the hotel apart is the warmth and friendliness of the staff; the concierge, the front desk, even random employees you pass in the hall are all friendly, polite, very personable and eager to assist in any way they can.
