How to Get There
So walking the streets we thought we heard Andrea Bocelli.........it turned out to be a local singer and 40 year veteran saxaphone player. This guy was unbelievable. Gianluca Baroncelli was his name. Not sure how often he plays there but if he does, don't miss it as he puts on a fantastic show.
It was our second visit to this hotel. It’s centrally located but on a quiet side-street. Beautiful large room. Friendly staff. Excellent breakfast. We also had a very good cocktail and ate in the small restaurant one evening which was lovely. We will be back!
This is our second time staying at this hotel in just six months. We visit Florence very frequently, so we look for hotels we like to establish a relationship. We had a rather pleasant experience last time, but sadly it’s a vastly different experience this time.
We booked a panoramic suite to enjoy the New Year’s Eve hoping to ring in the new year with awesome panoramic views, but upon check in, the management tried to convince us that the executive suite with a peekaboo view of the bell tower is also a panoramic suite. The suite they gave us is probably one of the worst in the hotel with nearly half of the sitting area taken by the elevator.
It turned out that the management had sold our panoramic suite to another traveler who apparently booked one more night than our four night stay. We made the reservation nearly four (!!) months ago to celebrate this special occasion. The hotel had ample time to prepare for our arrival. If there is unforeseen issue with the panoramic suite, I would expect a heads up prior to check in so we can make alternative plans. The whole trip was planned around the panoramic view to enjoy on the New Year’s Eve. Suffice it to say that no amount of monetary compensation would be enough to make up for our lost time. This practice is unacceptable. The hotel management has completely ruined our Florence vacation.
To make matters worse, I happen to have the highest tier Aurelian membership of Leading Hotels of the world. On such exclusive membership level, I did not expect to be treated with deception and disrepect. I would normally expect an upgrade to our room, but never expect to be downgraded. Not wanting to give such dishonest hotel more money, I had scrambled to make a last minute booking for a night at hotel Lungarno on the 31st and move to Portrait Firenze on 1/1. This management greed has caused us a great deal of inconvenience for we have to move three time in a four night stay.
The rooms are all rather dated with very poor bathroom facilities. There is no shower curtain to prevent spillage so care must be taken to avoid making a mess. It is also very difficult to get in and out of the tub as there are no handle bars and anti slip mat.
I would very very very very (can’t emphasize enough) strongly advice against booking this hotel for any length of stay, unless complimentary downgrade is your cup of tea.
Needless to say, the management has successfully lost a frequent Florence traveler due to their greed and failure to honor our reservation contract. It’s a shame really as most of the staff are professional and friendly. A special shoutout to the executive assistant manager Viviana Colonna for trying her best to salvage an unsalvageable situation.
Dario created the best winter garden cocktails for our family. The skill and attention to detail he put into our drinks was brilliant. If he is not the head of beverages he should be. This fella has skills and his attitude and positivity should be rewarded. What a great experience.
I can not recommend this hotel highly enough, we were looked after amazingly well. We will be returning. Thank you to all the staff who made our stay so magical and wonderful. The food was excellent and the children extremely well catered for and looked after.
