Renowned as the Cradle of the Renaissance, Florence is bursting at the seams with traditional architecture, historic works of art and famous sights. But there’s more to this city than the Statue of David, the Duomo and the Ponte Vecchio – though these are fine places to start. Look a little closer, and you’ll find that the streets are alive with a youthful spirit, from designer shops and modern-art galleries to experimental cuisine and forward-thinking fashion.
NH Firenze Anglo American is situated right in the middle of all this magical energy. A former convent, this luxurious hotel retains its old-world charm, adorned with antique furniture, Florentine paintings in gold-gilded frames and a stained-glass ceiling that stretches across the lobby. There are plenty of relaxing spots to soak up the 19th-century character in this hideaway, from the elegant and comfortable seating area in the lobby to the dappled shade of the outdoor patio.
At 190 square feet, the Superior rooms are large enough to fit a small sitting area, a king-sized bed, a dresser and a television. The rooms are tastefully decorated, and features such as heavy drapes, dramatic headboards and wrought-iron balconies create an intimate ambience.
A lavish buffet breakfast is served every morning at the hotel’s restaurant. Fresh fruit juices, pastries, cold cuts and cheeses are available, and the Schiacciata Toscana, a local specialty similar to focaccia bread, is a real treat. The hotel’s bar, with its high-backed leather chairs and dark-wood furnishings, is open during the daytime and evenings for drinks and light bites.
The hotel sits within walking distance of many important sites, and the river Arno is just a stone’s throw away. Right around the corner, you’ll find the Teatro Communale and the Basilica di Santa Maria Novella, the city’s principal Dominican church and the first great basilica in Florence. The Santa Maria Novella railway station is also just a short walk away, providing access to the rest of Tuscany.
How to Get There
A lovely, traditional hotel in a quiet neighbourhood that is very comfortable and relaxing, yet within walking distance of the town. Not far from the river and the American consulate.
Cool interior away from the city heat.
Friendly staff and a good breakfast buffet..
Check in was very easy, there is no car parking at the hotel they will suggest that you use their car park valet service or park nearby at a public parking area which is not secure ***there are guys who try to sell you parking for EUR20 at the public car park, it's a rip off, just use the kiosk***. Valet was easy, it was EUR25 to park and EUR5 each time you needed to access the car. Staff were really lovely and helpful. There is an overpowering perfume smell in the lobby. We paid for breakfast and it was expensive for what was offered. Rooms were clean and tidy but outdated furnishings. WIFI was free but slow. It's only around 20 minutes walk to Ponte Vecchio and the centre of the old town so a very handy location. Aircon didn't keep our room very cool, it got quite stuffy even when we tried to turn the aircon down to 18 degrees. We ate at a restaurant nearby as recommended by the hotel named Baldini's and the food there is quite nice.
The trip started not so well, ours luggage was left in Rome, but with the help of the people of the Florence airport and the front desk, we were able to have them next day. During our stay, the front desk was always very helpful. The rooms were very, very comfortable!!!!
Hotel is located just outside the tourist area but only 15 minutes away. The hotel itself, although a bit outdated, is quite nice with spacious rooms. The room we had, had a coffeemaker, fridge, safe and airco, although that did not work very well. Breakfast is fantastic with staff that provides you with coffee, tea, toast etc even though it’s a buffet breakfast. They do close the bar really early so don’t expect to have a drink after 11!
I stayed at the hotel with my daughter for 3 nights and I truly recommend this place. The firm which we have used to book our trip had made a mistake with the date of accommodation. However, the receptionist Gabriella helped us to find a solution to our problem and made everything she could. She was very kind and she and her colleagues made us feel comfortable and cosy at the place. The first night we were at a small and clean room. The view wasn't the best, which is really common in Italy, I think. But for the next two night we had a big room with a very beautiful view and with a huge bed. We got a good sleep there, thanks to the comfortable bed and the warm room. The breakfast was with a huge variety of pastries, croissants, fruits, dairy products and drinks. We were impressed with the proschuto, which was the best we have ever tried. The location is perfect. The hotel is near the train station, about a 10 min walk to get there. The river is a hundred meters away. The center of the city isn't far from the place. The beautiful sights and the impressive buildings make the walk to it really enjoyable. The staff was so friendly and responsive, the rooms were clean and cosy, the location is the best. I believe that the hotel is the best in Florence. I'm sure that this trip won't be my last in Florence, especially at that hotel!
Grazie di tutto!
