Set back from the beachfront, Villa del Mar is a relaxed escape with a laid-back attitude. Since opening in 2008, the 42-room property has exemplified the “no shirt, no shoes, no problem” getaway; it’s a place where two pools and a hot tub ringed by cushioned lounge chairs provide all the daytime entertainment you need. The hotel comprises three terra-cotta-topped buildings, and each guest room has a private balcony or patio, a washer/dryer, travertine floors, a flat-screen TV and Gilchrist and Soames bath products. Classic beach style reigns in these airy spaces, with photos of palm fronds, sea fans, starfish and coral adorning the beige walls. Deluxe Studios are about 700 square feet and have a kitchenette and a separate shower and bathtub with a white wood-slatted peekaboo window that looks into the sleeping area. For more room, plus a full kitchen with granite countertops and stainless steel appliances, upgrade to a 1,100-square-foot Two-Bedroom Luxury Suite. A continental buffet breakfast (bagels, muffins, etc.) is laid out each morning by the small poolside tiki bar, while a compact fitness center offers a way to burn the calories. Although there’s no spa, the front desk can help arrange in-room treatments. The hotel plans to eventually break ground on two more buildings, adding a restaurant, a coffee shop, an expanded fitness center and an additional pool and hot tub. But in the meantime, unfurl your towel on one of the many sun loungers and enjoy the natural charms of Turks and Caicos—long sunny days and the white sand of Grace Bay Beach.
In the Area
The hotel’s central location puts some of the island’s hottest tables within walking distance. Nab a reservation at the popular Coco Bistro and try such zesty dishes as rare blackened tuna with red Thai curry sauce, jasmine rice, mango chutney and buttered broccoli. It’s also a short stroll from Villa del Mar to the Regent Village and Saltmill shopping complexes, where you can peruse a Jais jewelry outpost, art galleries and a surf shop. When night falls, start the evening across the street at Grace Bay Club’s super-trendy Infiniti Bar for a fruity cocktail, and then end the party in the wee hours at the aptly name Jimmy’s Dive Bar. You can also try your luck at blackjack, craps, roulette, or poker at the Casablanca Casino—you may just leave Turks and Caicos a little richer.
How to Get There
Wow did I get ripped off!!! Stayed for 6 days with my 2 kids (12 and 16). Service was terrible. Arrived to the room which had one bed and a pullout sofa couch. They knew we had 3 in the room but I had to call 2 times to the front desk to get sheets for the sofa bed. Breakfast, is free-I can tell why. It consists of small boxes of cereal with warm milk that has been sitting on the counter in a pitcher, plain bagels, overripe bananas, and oatmeal in the packs like you buy at the store with nothing to put on it but a sugar pack. Good luck getting the room cleaned before 3pm. The TV broke and the toilet wouldn’t flush. Had to call to get both fixed. The staff was rude. Apparently there was a small cocktail party but the front desk didn’t inform us of that when we checked in. I booked a snorkeling excursion through the resort and the lady at the front desk assured me it was all taken care of and my credit card they had on file would be charged. When my family and I boarded the boat the deck hand looked disgusted when I told him that the excursion was already paid for so I didn’t bring a credit card with me. He had to call the front desk to get my card number. Spend your money elsewhere!!!
We loved our stay here. The apartment was spacious and lovely and we loved to have coffee and breakfast on the balcony. The beach is very accessible (4-5 mins walk) and lovely. Friendly and helpful service and great atmosphere. It's nice that it's a smaller resort so one never feels like there's a crowd and the reception staff recognize you. We wanted to book our return stay before we had even left.
Well when arrived there was a mix up on what Jetblue told us. They told us we would have 2 bedrooms. We had to provide the facility with an additional $800 dollars. What we originally had was a room with 1 bed a pull out couch and a small refridge with no cooking capabilities. After being on the phone with Jetblue for almost an hour going back and forth we finally have up. Shame on you jetBlue. Thank God we had the money to make it right. We didnt want to spoil our entire little get away.
The 2 bedroom suite was very nice. The beds were very comfortable. The staff were very nice and accommodating. Now for the beach...omg! The beach just a walk through a short path and was absolutely everything. Waters pristine clear. The sand white and hot to ones bare feet!...lol.
There is a pool on the premises and a cash bar. We bought our spirits in the duty free at the airport and brought it with us to the resort.
This was not a all-inclusive trip. Warning food is expensive in the supermarket. A case of bottle water we would pay $4.99 for is $12 there.
Overall, in spite of what happened when we arrived I give our trip a thumbs up.
A gorgeous property that is well located steps away but not on the beach. The rooms are well kept and incredibly well sized. The staff is incredible and very hospitable. The continental breakfast is sufficient and just enough to get you started. A fantastic getaway!
When we arrived at Villa Del Mar Toya greeted us, she was wonderful! I can truly say that Toya made our trip more enjoyable. Not only was she friendly, she was personable. We also met Patrina the booking manager, she was very friendly too! Our room was absolutely perfect. The balcony overlooking the pool was large and comfortable. The grounds are beautiful. The walk to the ocean was close, and the street that you cross is quiet, I was concerned about crossing a street, however it’s more like a private lane imo. The Wednesday evening managers reception was fun. If I ever come back to Turks and Caicos I wouldn’t hesitate to stay at Villa Del Mar again. We felt safe, the staff was friendly, our accommodations were wonderful and clean.
