In a café-packed residential neighborhood close to the Bosphorus, the W Istanbul is a glam getaway with contemporary Ottoman-inspired interiors. Fashioned by local interior design firm GeoID, this sophisticated sleep sits within a 19th-century row house and surprises and delights from the get-go: The entrance is a mirrored tunnel walkway designed to look like a jewelry box. Artist Thierry Dreyfus is behind the striking lighting effects, including hot pink panels in the hallways, and the nightclub-style lobby streams a funky playlist.
Bed and Bath
Sultry and spacious, the guestrooms all have high ceilings, floor-to-ceiling windows and signature W beds topped with pillowtop mattresses, goosedown comforters and down pillows embroidered with “Sweet Dreams,” and all but the Wonderful Rooms come with a private patio or terrace. Luxe features include 32-inch flat-screen LCD TVs set behind stylish black mirrored glass, oversize leather work desks and iPod docks. The hammam-style bathrooms feature rainfall showers, twin sinks, intricate backlit mirrors and Bliss toiletries.
Start the day with breakfast at the W Lounge, an elegant Ottoman-inspired spot open 24 hours a day. Fill up on specialties like menemen (a Turkish take on scrambled eggs), sucuk sausage and simit bread. In the evening, themed bento boxes combine Turkish and Asian delicacies. The Destination Bar is a hipster hideaway for cocktails and DJ sets. Head to the glass-paneled fitness room to work out while looking out to a leafy courtyard.
In the Area
The hotel is located in the Besiktas neighborhood, a great spot for traditional Turkish music, seafood restaurants, a fresh fish market and authentic teahouses and coffee shops to tempt you with baklava and other tasty Turkish treats. On Saturdays it’s worth the walk to the Besiktas Organic Market for inexpensive local food. The Nisantasi district is also nearby for designer boutiques and hip bars. Most of the main palaces and museums are within walking distance as well, and there’s a minibus to lively Taksim Square, the Galata Tower, Cihangir and Ortaköy. The property is well connected by tram to the old city, where you can explore the Grand Bazaar, the Blue Mosque, the Spice Baazar or Hagia Sophia.
How to Get There
We loved this hotel for the second half of our holiday in Istanbul. It’s one of the most stylish-looking of any in the W chain, and the entire staff was warm and very personable. Everyone in the lounge seemed to know our name and what we liked to order by the second day.
The biggest WOW for us hands down was the W Insider, Ilgi. She treated us to wine as she sat with us and reviewed our tourist wish list after we settled in, and she curated the best plans for us imaginable including booking amazing restaurants for us and arranging our Hamam visit. Even when she was off for the weekend, she was checking in on us, encouraging us to ask questions. We are supremely grateful to have been granted such a superb resource!
Overall, we’d highly recommend this property to W fans and those less familiar with W properties.
Best stay ever in my entire travel history. Most courteous and welcoming staff. The concierge person is the sweetest I have ever met. Highly recommend to take suggestions before stepping out.
The Resturant staff were excellent in serving and understanding our request.
The location of the hotel is excellent
This is a W Hotel that is true to the intentions of its brand. It's like stepping into a high end 1990s night club with a local flair.
The staff are very friendly whether it be the receptionists, breakfast staff or the whatever whenever concierge.
However, I can't give it 5 out of 5. Their were some hiccups. A.c. in the room wouldn't cool below 24 degrees even wjen set to 18. A light by the bedside needed to be fixed. Toiletries weren't replaced until we asked. House water wasnt replaced on the second day. There were some small moths in the room from the garden and the floor hadn't been vacuumed thoroughly before we arrived.
Staff were quick to respond on the items we raised.
Breakfast was fine although felt strange that it was in the bar. Not the biggest selection overall. Great fruit variety and you can order small extras made fresh if you have breakfast included.
I did have to put earplugs in to sleep on the second night as there was some karaoke going on outside.
Top quality SPG affiliated hotel with a very hip but relaxing resort feel in the heart of one of the prettiest areas in Istanbul. Beautiful, large suite room with a great little walk-out balcony overlooking a cobblestone street lined on both sides by a great variety of cafes, bars, and restaurants -- no really! The staff (and the breakfast buffet!) are what truly made this a wonderful experience in a city filled with amazing experiences!! Our concierge, Berk, felt more like a trusted friend and set us up with an amazing dining experience to celebrate our 26th wedding anniversary -- then helped arrange the wrapping of some fragile souveniers so they wouldn't be damaged on the return flight home. Special thanks also to Can, Rasim, Hazal, Sarch, Fazuk, and ALL the staff -- you all helped make sure our first trip to Istanbul (and the W) will not be our last!
This was my first visit to Istanbul and Turkey to visit friends celebrating their marriage. We arrived late from Paris into the airport and took a taxi to the hotel which is situated in a quiet neighborhood on a slope with cobblestone roads. There were restaurants and shops located near the hotel and the choices were plentiful. Being a platinum member SPG gave us a room with an accent like an old Italian bordello with deep red and black accents, the category was called Fabulous and indeed it was. The room and bathroom was spacious and the lay out was very functional, in addition we had a small balcony we could sit on and enjoy the view in the morning looking at the street below. The staff at the hotel was extraordinarily friendly and helpful when we asked for directions and recommendations. The only food we had in the hotel was Turkish breakfast which was served in a very cozy and intimate part of the restaurant. As for the city, the people and the hotel its already on my list to do again.
