In a café-packed residential neighborhood close to the Bosphorus, the W Istanbul is a glam getaway with contemporary Ottoman-inspired interiors. Fashioned by local interior design firm GeoID, this sophisticated sleep sits within a 19th-century row house and surprises and delights from the get-go: The entrance is a mirrored tunnel walkway designed to look like a jewelry box. Artist Thierry Dreyfus is behind the striking lighting effects, including hot pink panels in the hallways, and the nightclub-style lobby streams a funky playlist.
Bed and Bath
Sultry and spacious, the guestrooms all have high ceilings, floor-to-ceiling windows and signature W beds topped with pillowtop mattresses, goosedown comforters and down pillows embroidered with “Sweet Dreams,” and all but the Wonderful Rooms come with a private patio or terrace. Luxe features include 32-inch flat-screen LCD TVs set behind stylish black mirrored glass, oversize leather work desks and iPod docks. The hammam-style bathrooms feature rainfall showers, twin sinks, intricate backlit mirrors and Bliss toiletries.
Start the day with breakfast at the W Lounge, an elegant Ottoman-inspired spot open 24 hours a day. Fill up on specialties like menemen (a Turkish take on scrambled eggs), sucuk sausage and simit bread. In the evening, themed bento boxes combine Turkish and Asian delicacies. The Destination Bar is a hipster hideaway for cocktails and DJ sets. Head to the glass-paneled fitness room to work out while looking out to a leafy courtyard.
In the Area
The hotel is located in the Besiktas neighborhood, a great spot for traditional Turkish music, seafood restaurants, a fresh fish market and authentic teahouses and coffee shops to tempt you with baklava and other tasty Turkish treats. On Saturdays it’s worth the walk to the Besiktas Organic Market for inexpensive local food. The Nisantasi district is also nearby for designer boutiques and hip bars. Most of the main palaces and museums are within walking distance as well, and there’s a minibus to lively Taksim Square, the Galata Tower, Cihangir and Ortaköy. The property is well connected by tram to the old city, where you can explore the Grand Bazaar, the Blue Mosque, the Spice Baazar or Hagia Sophia.
How to Get There
Modern, funky hotel in the heart of the city. The area is surrounded by Universities, and has hundreds of bars and restaurants within walking distance.
The Lobby Area for check-in is part of the entrance hallway and does not create a good impression, however, next to this is the bar, restaurant which is nice and relaxed.
The room/hotel in general was just a bit too dark for me. That's the style, so you either like it or not.
The gym was good.
Bert on the Concierge desk was very helpful and genuinely showed his customer service skills.
Breakfast has lots of variety, and if you like bread you won't be disappointed. Duygu provided perfect service, friendly, attentive - always on hand. All the staff were good, and well trained.
As a Marriott member you don't have Lounge access or compensation, however, the location of this property, and the great service means I'd definitely go back.
Well done the W Team !
Hotel rooms, Restaurant, front desk and all the staff, faruk,Can,Hazal,Rasim, duygu, tolga,Ozkan,
what wonderful experience we haad with great staff!! Everyone of them are very respectful and accommodating. Will defiantly come back!!! Thank you for everything guys!!
I used to stay always at the W when I travel, i like a lor the atmosphere and the style. Unfortunately this branch is one of the worst ever visited. No WOW effect at the entrance (they changed it from the past), rooms are old, dirty and too dark. But the worst thing is the heating: you cannot control it so in any case it will be too hot or too cold. Also matress is an issue: too soft (as pillows) and in the morning u wake up fully sweaty (i do not know why).
It was my first time visiting Istanbul so I decided to pick a decent hotel just to avoid any unnecessary travel issues. When I first arrived at W, it really didn't disappoint me. I loved the location, it is so European style and it got a lot of cute cafes in that area. Hotel is pretty much like every other W hotels style. They have very friendly and helpful front desk, doorman. Especially Berke from the concierge, I almost go to him every day for travel, sightseeing, and general questions. He was so patience and never hesitate to answers my questions and help me with my bookings. The only thing needs improvement is their room temperature, it gets really warm sometimes but it was able to adjust by their housekeeping when I called.
Generally, I had a very pleasant stay at W and their staffs are professional and great hospitality. I would recommend anyone who plans to visit Istanbul to stay at W for holidays.
We enjoyed our 4 nights here. We were kindly upgraded to Suite which made our stay start on the right foot. Our room was quite spacious and spotlessly clean.
All the staff were superb, kind and helpful, one in particular really made our stay smooth though, Gorkem if im not mistaken his name was.
The location is perfect as it is within walking distances of our go-to areas.
We would happily return to this hotel.
