Behind a historic Ottoman-era façade in Istanbul’s hip and happening Beyoglu district, the Room Mate Kerem is a design-led boutique hotel without a whiff of pretension. The 61 guestrooms combine pale wood furniture, sleek white walls, flashes of bronze and designer lamps. The bathrooms are swanky turquoise tile affairs with huge rainfall showers and zingy house brand amenities. The hot and cold breakfast (don’t miss the fresh honeycomb and the cherry jam) is served until midday, while evenings can be spent sipping cocktails at the stylish rooftop bar. There is also a small fitness center, spa and hammam on the second floor.
In the Area
Beyoglu is in the hills above Galata, on the European side of the city. It is a major entertainments hub heaving with museums, galleries, historic buildings, fashionable shops and trendy bars and restaurants. Wander its cobblestone streets by day, visiting the red brick Church of St. Anthony of Padua, the superb Pera Museum and the Byzantine-era Galata Tower. Then search out the secret entrance to Five Kat, a racy little rooftop restaurant where you can feast on hunks of lamb, halloumi salads and rivers of raki while the city’s mosques and minarets flame gold in the sunset.
How to Get There
Generally the hotel and stay was fantastic, with beautiful interiors, food and service. As a tip perhaps some ear plugs could be left in the room as there was some noise in the corridor at nights and early in the morning. I would also recommend that bathrobes be left in the room (I had to call to have one brought to me). In addition perhaps the massage prices could be lowered slightly.
Great location! Clean rooms.
We were offered a room that we believed was too small for a 10 days stay, so the staff upgraded us to a duplex room right away!
The staff are helpful and friendly, always ready to serve you.
Ebru, the receptionist, helped us with the reservations and transportation tips wich was very helpful.
It was a nice city but not to blow up your mind. The food was excellent. The transportation was good and easy. Regarding the hotel was very very good in the most aspects. The staff was excellent. Very clean and quite down town. 2 minutes from Istiklal and 5 from the tram.
I stayed in this hotel, with my son during a holiday, that my children offered me. The hotel is very well situated, furnished with all commodities.
The highest value of this Art-Deco gem, is the quality of its affable staff, particularily Fethi and his colleague.
I had a wonderful Time.
Thank you very much for your service!
The staff here is very polite and helpful. Everything was as expected, there were no problems during our stay. The room was big and clean, the sheets were changed every two days and the bed was great. We have nothing to really complain about. There are of course some minor things which could use some improvement, like breakfast variety, but this is just a personal opinion. We would like to thanks the staff at the front office. They were great.
