Sleek in slate, the Avantgarde’s starkly modern façade stands out amid the neoclassical clutter of Taksim Square. Inside, the look is business casual. A suited corporate crowd dominates the marble-clad lobby, but the decor is softened by plush velvet sofas, a sprinkling of modern artworks and large bay windows overlooking the Bosphorus.
Bed and Bath
The 59 compact guestrooms have floor-to-ceiling windows and look out at the Bosphorus or Gezi Park. They’re decked out with wood floors and a palette of beige, taupe and light gray, and they feature huge beds with 300-thread-count Turkish linens and cozy backlit headboards. The WiFi is fast and free, and the wall-mounted flat-screen TVs offer an impressive free selection of international satellite channels. The bathrooms are positively petite, but the walk-in showers have indulgently large rainfall showerheads.
The Avantgarde can rest easy on its location laurels. It’s 100 yards from lively Taksim Square and adjacent to Gezi Park, a green antidote to Istanbul’s bustling city center, and it’s flanked by boulevards lined with genteel sycamore trees and tea-sipping pensioners. There’s a small wood-paneled restaurant that serves classic Turkish dishes and opens onto a terrace, and a well-equipped fitness center.
In the Area
Top shopping, the city’s best nightlife and Istanbul’s biggest conference venues are steps from the Avantgarde. Losen your tie at the proletarian Ficcin, one of Istanbul’s most traditional and best-loved dining options. For fancy fine dining try the critically acclaimed Yeni Lokanta after drinks at the sceney Munferit. Enjoy skyline views from the upscale eatery Balkon. The wine bars around the iconic Galata Tower provide an idyllic setting for a night out. The Avantgarde is at the center of the city’s transport network, with a nearby subway station offering access to the old city (the Blue Mosque, Aya Sofia and the Grand Bazaar), and there’s a ferry network that services Istanbul’s famous Princes’ Islands.
How to Get There
Hotel stay is cozy and nice. Few meters from Taksim square and facing Gezi park which makes it a cool stay in morning. Hotel is modern and rooms are new. Rooms are always clean and the cleaning staff change everything daily with free bottles of water. Staff are very friendly and some speaks English and they always like to help and assist. As for breakfast, the only good is the cheese, croissant and eggs especially they can cook them directly. While the juice taste is not good and they should put different variety of host dishes. As well the cappuccino should be free.
Will repeat it for sure.
Incredibly poor service. Absolutely not worth the price they charge. The location is the only thing going for this hotel. The staff is seriously untrained and unprofessional. Their website claims that there is an in-house restaurant open till midnight yet the front desk informed us that the website is wrong and their restaurant is only for breakfast. TV not working. Poor plumbing. Poor breakfast. Add to it staff which is completely clueless. After having stayed at a big hotel chain property in Istanbul, an exotic hotel in Cappadocia and an all-inclusive luxury resort in Antalya, this property came as a disappointment.
It was one the worst hotels that I ve ever stayed. Not due to the location or Aminities ,but it is only because of the way the personnel treated with us which is the most important factor for any hotel owners to consider. The story goes back to the time we wanted to check out from this hotel and they overcharged us by the accusation of using the mini bar in the hotel but we had never used it and as we were telling them they treated really badly with us .
I would never go there again because of lack of the politeness of the personnel and the way the overcharged us.
The best location, near to taksim square and isteklal street, near metro, bus and near dolmabaghche palace. very clean, good breakfast, very good view(bosporus strait) at 4th floor, small lobby, the staffs can speak english good.
Great location, but very noisy rooms. And quite old. The photos on the website are better than reality. The bed matress should be changed. Maybe it’s been worn for years and years.
Will not stay again for sure. No Value for money.
