Elegantly furnished historic inn in downtown Tucson featuring casita-style suites and glorious gardens
Set amid 14 acres of manicured gardens, this historic inn – founded in the 1930s by Isabella Greenway, Arizona’s first Congresswoman and a lifelong friend of Eleanor Roosevelt – manages to be utterly genteel and gracious without being stuffy. The salmon-pink casita-style dwellings blend Old World charm with must-have mod-cons like free WiFi and flatscreen TVs. The pool and tennis court similarly evoke another era, with their jaunty yellow umbrellas and retro sun loungers. A host of free diversions await, from traditional afternoon tea and ice cream by the pool to bicycles, ping pong, badminton, and croquet.
In the Area
Soak in the area’s rich history with a visit to the 18th century San Xavier Mission, one of the country’s finest examples of Spanish Mission architecture, recently restored and containing a museum. Check out an impressive natural wonder at the Saguaro National Park; the Sonoran Desert is the only place in the world where the giant saguaro cactus grows, and it’s just a half-hour drive from the inn. Just minutes away is the Reid Park Zoo, where you can get to know over 500 species of exotic animals, many endangered, including adorable newborn lion cubs.
