La Bastide de Tourtour is a four-star retreat in France's Provence region, just outside the village of Tourtour. This postcard-perfect town – home to an olive-oil mill and two castles – is often touted as one of the most beautiful in France, and its hilltop setting offers stunning views over the surrounding countryside. You won't need to head into town to take in gorgeous vistas, though. The property itself covers 10 beautiful acres, which you can explore on your own – or simply admire from your room's private terrace.
There's more to take in here than just spectacular scenery, though. The estate is home to an elegant restaurant, where you can enjoy authentic regional specialties, and there's even a cooking school on-site. You'll also find a lovely outdoor pool, surrounded by pine trees, and an indoor spa with a hot tub, a steam room and a tempting treatment menu. Add in the property's interesting history – it featured in the 1973 film "Day of the Jackal" – and you'd be hard pressed to find a more uniquely charming spot to recharge your batteries.
Rooms here beautifully fuse traditional elegance with contemporary charm. Confort Standard rooms start you off at 160 square feet, with lovely all-white décor and beautiful antique touches. Prestige Luxe rooms are considerably larger, at 270 square feet, with comfortable seating areas and terraces featuring panoramic views over the area.
The hotel's restaurant offers a refined ambience in which to enjoy delicious French cuisine. A shaded outdoor terrace provides the perfect spot for an al-fresco weekend lunch, while inside, high-end furnishings and exposed beams and stonework create a gorgeous atmosphere. A seven-course tasting menu is available, as well as à la carte options and, of course, a fine selection of of local wines. The property also features a dedicated cooking school, so you'll be able to take your favorite recipes home with you.
The estate's lovely spa is just as elegant as you would expect to find at a property such as this. Take your pick from the range of tranquil treatments on offer, or simply relax in the steam room or hot tub. A fitness center is also available if you want to kick things up a notch.
La Bastide de Tourtour is located in southeastern France, between Provence and the Côte d'Azur. The lovely hilltop town of Tourtour, a member of the Les Plus Beaux Villages de France association, is just a 10-minute walk from the hotel. Considered one of the prettiest villages in the country, this town is full of quaint cafés and lovely restaurants. If you feel like exploring a bit further out, Cannes, Nice and Marseilles are all within a two-hour drive of the property and offer perfect destinations for day trips.
