All-villa Relais & Chateaux property on a private reserve in the Chilean wilderness, with private hot tubs and jaw-dropping views
Coming to Awasi is a commitment—not only is there a three-night minimum stay, but you'll also need to be fully committed to going without good WiFi to upload your stunning photos on an hourly basis. Instagram likes will have to wait until you get back, but it's worth it. These 12 villas, made from local lenga wood and scattered far enough apart that you'll feel like you're alone in nature, are exquisitely comfortable on the inside, with spacious living areas adorned with sheepskin rugs, but the scenery here steals the show every time. Patagonia's snow-capped Torres del Paine mountains just beyond, the trees bending in the breeze, the guanaco (similar to llama) grazing in the distance—this is one of the most beautiful places on earth. There are plenty of excursions available (see below) and you'll return from a day of trekking in time for a gourmet dinner, a few glasses of Chilean wine, and a dip in the outdoor hot tub under the stars.
In the Area
Part of Awasi's attraction is its isolation. Villas are widely spaced, there are no other resorts or hotels in sight, and it's on a private reserve, so the only people you'll see are other guests and the hotel staff. While you could easily while away a week lounging around the hotel enjoying the hot tub and exclaiming about the scenery, it's more tempting to get out and explore the incredible natural beauty that surrounds you; plus, you'll probably see some spectacular South American wildlife. Awasi arranges 4x4 excursions, hiking trips, horseback riding, mountain biking and late-night stargazing expeditions, but you're free to do as much—or as little—as you like.
