An oceanfront wine country escape with midcentury style, Cali-inspired dishes and an award-winning wine list
Originally built in the 1960s, Sea Ranch Lodge remains true to its roots, with a Midcentury Modern aesthetic. The redwood and cedar cabins are done in muted earth tones, complete with cozy wood-burning fireplaces and large windows that look out onto the water. The hotel’s anchor is the main lodge, which once housed the community’s general store and is still home to the historic town post office. Locals and visitors alike gather at the lodge’s Black Point Grill to feast on farm-to-table dishes and sip local wines.
Bed and Bath
The hotel’s recently remodeled oceanfront rooms all have breathtaking views of the Pacific Coast and feature custom-made California King beds. There are cozy seating areas and fireplaces that are perfect for snuggling up, and private patios that come equipped with dramatic views. The chic bathrooms have vessel sinks, eco-friendly bath products and deep soaking tubs.
A delicious California breakfast at Black Point Grill is included in your stay, and the restaurant is open for lunch and dinner, too. Dog-friendly rooms are available and come with a comfy dog bed, tasty treats, water and food bowls (with placemat) and activity suggestions for you and your buddy. Don’t miss a self-guided wildflower hike and a trip to the Spindrift Gallery to see works by local artists.
In the Area
Start your vacation off with a deep tissue massage at the spa, then hike down to Black Point Beach to look for shells (keep an eye out for whales, too). Don’t forget your camera: The area hosts more than 100 species of native birds. Sea Ranch town is a haven for artists, and there are countless local galleries to explore. Another must-do: a trip to nearby wine tasting rooms such as Annapolis Winery and Fort Ross Vineyard.
