How to Get There
My husband and I had the pleasure of staying at The Shore at Katathani for 7 nights in July 2019.
We stayed in one of the Romance Villas – room 8866. The room was a little way up the hill from the beach and resort common facilities, which meant that we had a fantastic view and enjoyed mornings and afternoons in the pool overlooking the Andaman sea and Kata Noi Beach. The room was amazing and very clean and had all the amenities you could need and extras including bath, two-person shower, indoor and outdoor seating. We were also supplied with about 2 ltrs of free water each day, so we were very well hydrated (bottled water is also free by the common pool). We were also kept very cool with air-conditioning in both the bathroom and bedroom areas (almost a little too cool. So they supplied us with an extra fan for our last few nights).
The boys in the buggies are only a phone call away to take you down breakfast at the Harbour. The buffet had all that you could hope for, including Vegemite, Nutella and a plethora of tropical fruit jams such as guava, durian, pineapple and coconut. The food varied each day and there were different freshly prepared breakfast items to choose from like, mini-breakfast burgers, pulled pork, duck, eggs benedict, as well as your regular buffet items (eggs, bacon, fruit, bread, cereal, juice, various international dishes). We were also well looked after by the Harbour staff who remembered that I required almond milk with my tea (We were so relaxed we unfortunately didn’t catch the names of any of our amazing and friendly servers). They catered for any dietary requirement and all foods were very well labelled. With my food intolerances, I had no issues with any of the food I selected or ordered at the resort. We also ate at the Pineapple Bar and the Fisherman’s Wharf at Katathani Resort and Spa, which is the larger family-friendly sister resort to The Shore. We could even get a buggy down to dinner or lunch at Katathani. I believe I even saw a couple take the buggy down to the 7Eleven. Note that we were able to use the Katathani Resort and Spa facilities, but guest from Katathani cannot come up to the private property of The Shore – very exclusive. The security guards are also awesome, friendly and will salute you in and out of the property!
We spent a couple of mornings by the common pool after breakfast and we didn’t have any issues finding a Cabana to shelter and relax in. You can’t book them, but there’s no need as there is plenty of space. It was fairly quiet at the start of the week and was a little busier Friday, Sat and Sunday. With the Cabanas the pool staff are available for any food or drink orders via buzzer – too easy! Average cocktail price is $13AU and average meal price is $20AU. The Beach is just a little walk down from the pool area. Unfortunately there doesn’t seem to be anything they can do about the stagnant and polluted water that ends up pooling near the beach entry. You just had to make your way past the security gate, jump down off the little wall and cross the bridge to get to the beach (hoping that the wind doesn’t blow in your direction). I wasn’t surprised by the state of the beach or the sea as we experienced the Andaman when in Langkawi, Malaysia around July a few year ago. With the rains and wind at night, all the garbage from the ocean washes to shore. This didn’t stop my husband (or other tourists) from jumping in and enjoying the waves.
We also enjoyed the other facilities such as the waiting area and complimentary showers as we had a late 6pm checkout on Monday. The staff secured our luggage where we could easily access it if need be and we still had access to WiFi and the pool. We even still had access to the complimentary afternoon tea from 3pm to 5pm, which was offered each day. It would have been a long uncomfortable hot day of waiting or rushed shopping if they didn’t offer this service. We also used the Shuttle to take us to Phuket Central the new shopping centre. For the equivalent of $14AU for the two of us, we were picked up in an air-conditioned van and given 3 hrs to shop and eat before being picked up and returned to The Shore. I was sick towards the end of the trip and without knowing exactly how unwell I was I thought I better visit the resort clinic before our flight home (this was after a helpful suggestion from Sven the hotel manager, who checked-in on guests at breakfast). Dr Viriyakuttiyaporn and nurse Saowalee were very attentive, fluent in English and made me feel emotionally better in seconds. I actually had a middle-ear infection, sinusitis and an upper respiratory infection! So was glad to get medication and advice from the resort clinic (at a price that I believe is very fair approx. $350AU for Dr fees and meds, which can be claimed via travel insurance).
My only negatives would be that there was construction work on site (‘emergency repairs’), so the noise of the digger could be a little distracting, but didn’t bug my husband and the work was not all day. The resort is also not a No Smoking resort, so for Australians who are used to restaurants where there is no smoking - even outside, this was a little annoying – but hey – you can’t control other people. Just look out at the view and you’ll forget about it.
I would highly recommend The Shore as a beautiful couples resort. We had the best food, drinks, service and location that we could ever imagine. We aren’t extremely romantic so found the romance levels to be cheesy at some points, but for those who love roses, wine and smooth music this room, view and resort will meet all of your expectations. It’s true that the photos don’t do this place justice, you just have to go and experience how awesome it is. I can still see that view when I close my eyes.
Stunning hotel, set in perfect location. Will be back in future. The seaview villas are a must and come with a great pool and seaview. Amenities were good and provided quickly. The wifi has a few issues in the room I hope they can fix
My husband and I stayed here for 4 nights after traveling to Singapore and Cambodia. We were looking for a relaxing, romantic getaway and that is exactly what we got. The staff and property can’t be beat. We were treated like VIPs from the moment we arrived. The entire property and our room were breathtaking! We stayed in the ocean view pool villa. Worth every penny !!! We had breakfast delivered to our villa every morning and barely ever went out. We have been to Phuket twice before so for us this was perfect. Thailand uses grab and for under $20 and about 25 minutes you can get to Patong beach. For less you can go into Karon or Kata. The little town of Kata Noi is a short walk and the property buggy will take you to the sister property of katehani beach resort which puts you right in town. We had the best stay and will be back !
