Overview

Family-friendly beach retreat with four pools and a swim-up bar, steps from one of Phuket's best beaches

The Look

Bridging the gap between Phuket’s dazzling beaches and secluded tropical hinterlands is a tall order, but the Mövenpick Karon Resort and Spa manages to do just that. Set in lush tropical gardens, steps from Karon Beach, this Swiss-owned resort provides the best of both worlds. Spacious suites and villas are housed in traditional thatch-roofed buildings, and the secluded palm tree–studded grounds are home to four pools, four restaurants and a spa with an authentic Thai massage sala.

Bed and Bath

The hotel’s two-story thatch-roofed main building houses 175 suites and villas. All west-facing suites have stunning sunset views, while the garden suites overlook the busy swimming pool. The Mövenpick’s premium room category, the two-bedroom Residences, all face Karon Beach and cater to families or guests seeking more space to stretch out and relax. The remaining 163 villas and suites are scattered around the expansive tropical gardens. The larger villas are equipped with private plunge pools, while the pool villas come with outdoor rainfall showers. Suites are sleek and simple: marble floors, dark wood furnishings, fabrics and walls in browns and creams.

Beyond

The star attraction is the blue tiled outdoor swimming pool, around which the resort’s restaurants are located. Decorated with rough-hewn granite boulders, the swim-up bar is the resort’s main social hub. Affable bartenders mix trendy drinks and keep guests entertained throughout the day with their classic Thai friendliness and thirst for sanuk (fun). The bars and pulsing nightlife of Karon and Patong Beach are just minutes from the hotel, but from the seclusion of the resort’s lush palm-fringed gardens and airy public areas you’d never know it. And there is no need to leave: The four restaurants serve Western, South American and Asian food all day, and the bustling Kinnaree Bar features live jazz every night of the week, the smooth beats mixing with the tropical breezes blowing in off the Indian Ocean.

In the Area

Sunbathe, rent a jet ski, snack on delicious Thai food or enjoy a relaxing massage on the white sands of bustling Karon Beach. Or watch Thai history come to life through a colorful sound and light show with elephants, acrobats and more, all staged in a full-size Khmer temple. Discover the funky, sleepy capital of Phuket, where Sino-Portugese shop houses sit shoulder to shoulder with sleek boutiques. Hungry after bargaining for handicrafts? Sample local Thai and Chinese cuisine in casual alfresco restaurants, where seafood and curries are the main event. In the evening hit the bustling bars and thriving party scene at Patong Beach, just minutes from the resort.

First Trip in Phuket

people are very nice and I feel safe walking on the roadside even at night. Though the hotel was already old but the amenities were still maintained. The beach in front of the hotel was very clean and there were a variety of foods outside the hotel that cost very affordable.

They offered us an upgrade upon arrival, we didn't even ask for one! Was given a pool villa. This was great and so private. The entire resort was well maintained and gardens just superb. All staff was very nice and most helpful. The bar out the front opp. the beach was a great place to chill in the evening. Great bar staff too! Great breakfast with plenty to choose from.
The council certainly need to clean the beach up though, lots of rubbish laying around. I do like how you can get driven around in a golf cart form the front to the rear of the resort as its a long walk. The cart drivers were friendly. We loved the lady room cleaners as their humour and friendliness made our day everyday.
The staff in the ice-cream store need some training in how to speak to a customer as we found them rude and unhelpful and SLOW!
Overall I would stay here again.

Disappointed. Doesn’t worth it. Clueless stuff.

Rooms are super old. Doesn’t look like to the pictures in the website. Bad area.
Rooms smell bad.

Very disappointed.

First trip Thailand

We stayed in a Superior Room, King Bed. Very comfortable, clean. Staff were always helpful and friendly. Very happy with the location of this resort as was directly across the street from beautiful Karon Beach and had many dining choices in walking distance. The grounds were beautifully kept. Breakfast was always plentiful and had many options---it truly would be hard to criticize unless you were very picky. It was Low Season when we went, and very quiet thus no issues with finding pool lounges. Also lovely that the Resort does not allow people 'reserving a pool spot' like what happens in Mexico. Easy to get a taxi right on the street outside the hotel. I'm surprised at comments that the property is showing signs of wear. It is Thailand, and it is humid. Yes, its not brand new but hard to criticize. The only possible negative comment would be that meals/beverages are costly in comparison to restaurants or lounges just down the road, enough so that we rarely ever ate there. Of course, this is not unusual for Resorts----this one included.

Very enjoyable trip. Staff always helpful and friendly.
Pool and swim up bar were a hit - especially as the boys could also get ice cream!
Pakboong in the restaurant at night had room numbers and most meals sorted as we arrived. Need to work on variety next time!
