Laid-back beach resort on Phuket's west coast with apartment-style rooms and a palm tree-flanked lagoon

The Look

A peaceful resort near one of Phuket’s quieter beaches, Mövenpick Bangtao Beach Resort offers privacy and seclusion on this popular Thai island. The 40 apartment-style suites and residences are equipped with living areas, kitchens and balconies and are perfect for families or groups of friends. The palm tree–flanked Olympic-size pool and private beach club make it easy to relax and recuperate on-site, but venture beyond the gates and you’ll find secluded bays and idyllic islands along Phuket’s west coast.

Bed and Bath

The resort’s 40 suites and residences feel more like luxury apartments than hotel rooms. Spacious and stylish, they feature fully equipped kitchens and light and airy dining and living areas tricked out with such gadgets and gizmos as flat-screen TVs, DVD players and Bose surround-sound systems. The suites maximize natural light with a warm color palette of amber with splashes of gold and bronze, and there are plenty of windows and glass doors opening onto balconies and patios.

The Olympic-size swimming pool is set within lush gardens and has a terrace with dark wood cabanas and deck chairs. For fun and games, there’s mini golf, foosball and a children’s play area. Getting to the beach involves unlocking the outer gate of the resort with a PIN code and crossing a quiet street. The resort’s Beach Club is a delightful place to unwind on a lounge chair and enjoy a leisurely lunch or a drink overlooking the Andaman Sea.

In the Area

Scooters are an easy way to get around Phuket Island, and a friendly grandmother runs a small rental business from the back of her house just in front of the Mövenpick resort on the way to the beach. Scooters and helmets are $6 to $10 per day; you can book online prior to arrival. Longtail boats are great for visiting the region’s secluded beaches and small islands. Most popular beaches will have boats readily available for rent. The Mövenpick resort is right next to the Laguna Phuket Golf Club and a short drive from other premier courses, including Blue Canyon Country Club, Mission Hills Phuket Golf Club and the Red Mountain Phuket Golf Course. Simon Cabaret in Patong is one of Thailand’s most flamboyant and professional ladyboy cabaret shows; the company puts on three song-and-dance sets a night.

Excellent boutique resort!!

We had a 5 night stay at the resort and it couldn’t have been more wonderful! The location is quiet, although it doesn’t have a private beach, it is literally across the road from it white sandy beaches. The rooms are clean and very spacious! We were upgraded from 1 to a 3 bed residence which was more than enough for 2 people! 😊 The breakfast is of high quality which what you’d expect from a 5* resort. The staff is helpful and nice everywhere. Steven W is a hard working manager and goes out of his way to help other staff and guests. We wouldn’t think twice about recommending this resort to others if you’re looking for some much needed relaxation away from the maddening crowd of Patong.

The Palm cuisine restaurant served amazing food for breakfast and we ate a few times for lunch and dinner too and the food is nothing short of simple but delicately cooked tasty food!

Amazing villa. The rooms and living room are big and top notch. We had a private room in the villa which was again, amazing. We ordered room service dinner a few times after an exhausting day visiting some of the local attractions. The food and service was fantastic. Very friendly staff, peaceful and relaxed resort, hustle free and no crowds. We were a family of five. Excellent for the children. BangTao beach is one minute away and is very clean and peaceful as well. Highly recommended to anyone considering a pleasant vacation. I am happy that I made the right choice. The best.

Bang Tao Is Great
Reviewed 4 weeks ago

Bang Tao is a fantastic sleepy little community. Slow paced, clean streets and friendly folk. A welcome contrast to the usual hustle and bustle of the main touristy areas of Phuket.

The movenpick proved to deliver on customer service and as with most 5 star establishments in this part of the world, they excel at catering to families.

We stayed in a 2 bedroom pool villa. In hindsight we feel the room didn’t represent value for money. The room is spacious but well aged and we came across quite a few minor issues. The problems we reported were immediately addressed such as the hot system not working. Other relatively insignificant issues (the TV remote and bath plug not working) became a general frustration and the water in the pool villa was very cold because it barely received any sun.

The in-room dining service was exceptional. Authentic Thai food very well presented.
The breakfast buffet was quality and of equally good standard was the spa service.

The beach is good for a stroll, but not terribly picturesque and the sea was quite rough during our time there.

Outside of the hotel, you can’t go past chili kitchen restaurant. It would have to be close to the best Thai food I’ve ever had.
And a short drive away, green elephant sanctuary park can not be missed. They offer a very interactive and educational experience while keeping a firm focus on the elephants best interest.

In summary, going forward Bang Tao will be my go to location when next visiting Phuket however I will probably be inclined to explore some of the other hotel options
