Phuket is one of those all-rounder destinations that has something for every traveller. What the most seasoned visitors will tell you is that for the most intense sunsets and softest sands, the west coast is the place to be.
Here, just 30 minutes south of Phuket International, the gentle surf of Surin Beach is only steps away, with Bang Tao and Kamala both reachable in under 10 minutes. It’s ideal for a relaxed fly-and-flop break, though there’s much to lure you from your lounger too. For further-flung adventures, consider a cruise to Phi Phi islands or dream-like Phang Nga Bay – the front desk team can arrange it for you.
And it’s not just a fantastic location. The intimate 66-room MANATHAI Surin Phuket has a beautiful, high-ceilinged lobby, a discreet al fresco bar, tropical outdoor pool, contemporary Thai restaurant and a quiet spa that lifts your senses with the scent of lemongrass and coconut. There are no gimmicks here; this luxury boutique hotel is polished rather than flashy, with ticks in all the right boxes. For style on a shoestring in an area chock-full of blow-the-budget options, it’s hard to beat.
How to Get There
A beautiful property with immense potential but stunted by lack of maintenance. Choose the terrace room with a private plunge pool. Overall design was tasteful and on par with 5 star resorts but not the upkeep. The room was as described in the photos but more tired and worn due to its proximity to beach humidity. Bathroom had noticeable mild in several spots with shower drains were clogged, while the pool seemed to need cleaning. Can’t speak for other types of rooms since I did not stay in those. Staff was helpful and attentive however. It’s also only 1 minute walk from the beach which would be unbeatable. Pool bar was a nice touch and happy hours offers thoughtful. Apt for those on the lookout for the atmosphere and intimacy of a boutique hotel but watch out for cleaning issues.
Although not the newest resort in Surin, it is great value for couples but not good for kids. So if you want spacious accomodation, very helpful staff, peace and tranquility- stay here. Our accomodation was huge, on two levels with large bedroom upstairs and lounge room downstairs - seemed we had been up graded. The breakfast and restaurant was good as were the two pools. We would certainly stay again
The MANATHAI Surin is a must-stay in Phuket! Not only is the staff more than accommodating, but the hotel itself is Instagrammable from the moment you enter the lobby to the moment you step foot in your actual room. Not to mention, the food was delightful and the pool/bar is everything you could want in a vacation home away from home. I couldn't recommend MANATHAI enough to those visiting Phuket.
The Manathai in Surin is a clean, comfortable and average hotel at Surin Beach. If you are looking for high end extras or any extras at all this hotel isn’t for you.
There are two pools. One is average the second is not at all appealing. The beds and linens are very comfortable and the rooms are clean with a great selection of bath products. The staff are polite but don’t go out of their way to be helpful or friendly. It’s an average hotel.
Skip the restaurant - Pad Thai. The breakfast is 500 THB per person and sub par my food was cold and uncooked. You can find delicious coffee and food at the neighbouring hotel or the Phuket Coffee Lab a short walk away.
If you would like an airport transfer be prepared to pay 1000 THB which is marginally cheaper than a cab but not cheaper than a Grab Car at about 850 THB. A trip to Patong Beach will cost you anywhere from 600 to 800 THB depending on the time of day and if it’s raining or not.
The redeeming quality of this hotel is it’s proximity to Surin Beach, which is about a 3 minute walk away. The hotel provides beach towels, a beach mat and a little sand broom. There are no umbrellas at the beach but there are lots of trees that provide great shade.
If you are looking for night life, shops and activity Surin Beach is not for you, best to focus your search to Patong Beach.
Overall this hotel is worth the visit, great for beach access, clean and quiet.
We stayed 4 nights in a "Deluxe Room".
It's difficult to point out significant positive or negative things about this hotel.
Here's an attempt:
+ Beautiful beach just across the street, 1-2 minutes walk
+ Free beach towel, beach bag and bamboo mat
+ Very good breakfast buffet
+ Super friendly staff, as everywhere in Thailand
+ Clean room
- Oldish pool area (broken deckchairs)
- Shower in the room switched between hot and cold water
We enjoyed staying at the hotel, we think it's a good value.
But, if we ever visit the same area again, we'd consider other hotels too.
