How to Get There
We arrived today, 23rd of April, having booked 2 upgraded rooms (Club Room, Private Pool, Ocean View). We arrived after spending 5 days at one of the most luxurious hotels on the other side of Phuket.
I was a bit concerned, prior to ordering, having read some mixed reviews on this property. Having seen photos of the property, with an amazing pool, I said to myself, with such an amazingly looking pool, what can go wrong?
Well... keep reading...
Checked in and wanted to leave the room immediately, to head to the beach, to catch a few hours of sun, before the evening.
Had to call 3 times for the bags to arrive. Had a baby crying in the room with her food in the bag. Bags arrived after nearly an hour...
Entertaining the room... private pool was filthy. Had to call the pool guy who spent nearly five minutes removing an army of dead mosquitos from the pool...
No soap or shampoo in the room.
One bathrobe missing...
Called front desk, to send some towels (as wanted to take these to the beach). Called again. And again... nearly 2 hours later, still now towels, so just took the ones in the room, hoping that upon our return we will be lucky to have some fresh towels...
Called the front desk to order the: (a) hotel internal shuttle to take us from the room to the lobby (rooms in the hotel internal require transportation, given the distance of the rooms from the lobby); and (b) a taxi to the beach. Front desk asked us to wait outside the room. Well, we did. No one arrived. We tried calling front desk from the shuttle waiting spot. Phone didn’t work... Started the trek to the lobby, in the heat, two babies and bags, carried in our arms. On the way met an empty shuttle. He did us a favor and saved us from this hike. We asked him to call front desk to cancel the shuttle. He called them. They said they did not order a shuttle for us...
Arrived at the lobby. The taxi we booked, never arrived... someone must have forgotten it...
Well... nearly 3 hours after arriving in the hotel (I arrived an hour before checkin), we managed to escape and go to the beach.
Went to the beach. Came back. Sat down at the restaurant to eat. We were the only ones in the restaurant. Ordered 3 plates. Only two arrived. Having waited for nearly 30 minutes for mu plate, I just canceled it and left hungry (had to go back to the room to take a conference call).
Rested a bit and wanted to head out for dinner. Called the shuttle... did not arrive. Hiked to the club lounge. 30 minutes before it was supposed to close. Staff was already cleaning up, took off all refreshments (save for coffee and soft drinks). Just left the place, as I felt I was burdening myself on the staff, who wanted to call it a day and go home.
Mentioned some of the issues above at front desk. They said “sorry”, sent a plate of fruit.
I travel extensively. Holding a MasterCard Elite and Visa Infinate (black credit cards), I am invited to the world’s finest hotels. This place is so far away from the establishments I usually stay at, that they have earned the pleasure of not only not seeing me at this hotel, but I will never stay at any other Hyatt hotel. Ever.
Beams of light: Mr. Hun from front desk / concierge such a nice and friendly guy.
Ms. Jubjang from the swimming pool bar, went out of her way to make my evening drink and cigar pleasant (while writing this review).
I almost never write reviews on trip advisor.
Well... Hyatt Phuket - you earned it, I’m afraid.
Peninsula Bangkok, thank God I’ll be arriving in a few days...
Wonderful views, wonderful service, wonderful location. The staff makes you feel welcome from the initial greeting. The room was very updated. This is definitely someplace that I would return to in the future.
For me hyatt regency is a big name in hotel industry. So when choosing this hotel, my expectation is high coz experiencing hyatt hotels in my place, they are all tip top. This hyatt regency phuket resort really got me in to surprised! Reaching at the hotel lobby, i’m amazed. Nice and modern concepts! But during checking in, there comes the first issue. We made reservations for 2 rooms as we are travelling with family. But then they refused to give us room next/closed to each other. Or even next to next block. We were given 1 room in block 4 and another one in block 6!! I was damn mad with this issue but chose not to prolong and spoil my holiday mood, i just let it go. Went to the room, my first impression was like, is this really hyatt regency?? The build-in wardrobe and furniture is wornout. The wall painting in the toilet is peeling off. The rain shower is not well functioning. Water goes out from the bathroom during shower due to door cannot be close properly. So yeahh... i’m really disappointed with this trip. The hotel is not as what you seen in the pictures on their website.
Hotel staff were lovely and always smiling. Pool is amazing, best hotel pool I have seen - huge. Nice atmosphere down by the pool. Rooms are nice. Breakfast is good, wide selection to suit anyone.
Very hot and humid at this time of year. Would love there to have been a cold plunge pool somewhere as the pool water became quite warm.
1. building sites on both sides and constant construction noises during the day.
2. Price of drinks at the pool is extortionate
3. 15 minute walk to Kamala beach - if you need to walk back after the last bus (6.15 pm - too early) you will need to pay around 200-300)
4. Prices for food and drink in Kamala are higher than you expect (especially if you have just come from Chiang Mai)
We have stayed at Hyatt Park and Hyatt Regency in many cities and didn't even think twice when booking this hotel, because we have always been really happy with Hyatt.
First of all - the staff at the hotel is wonderful! We would have moved if it had not been for them!! However... after extensive travelling for the last 30 years, I can only blame our experience on poor leadership and sufficient training.
I am sorry to say, but this Hyatt Regency is not 5 star and should not be able to use the Hyatt brand.
At first glance it all looks wonderful - as the lobby area is well kept and clean.
It is obvious that the cleaners and maintenance staff are not appreciated nor trained correctly. The hotel is too new to have the amount of neglect found in our room. E.g.; loose handle bar in shower, dead flies and dark hair all over the floor in the bathroom and toilet, black stains everywhere on the white marble floor, bathtub tap loose, 1 bathroom sliding door stuck the other one with holes, huge stains on the balcony curtains - this is just a few examples!
Regardless of the poor cleaning, the hotel had other areas to attend to as well. The food was really good, well prepared and tasty. We really enjoyed the breakfast buffet! However, you can not charge food and drinks as if this was in London, Rome, New York or Paris! Paying over 20 euros for a cup of machine filter coffee in Thailand is not OK! Especially when the hotel itself is not up to par as a proper luxury hotel. The pool bar and pool restaurant would be full if they had more sensible pricing and fixed all the broken tiles in the pool!
During our stay the hotel also hosted weddings every other day - which can be a pleasant feature once or twice during your holiday...not 3-4 times a week. The weddings resulted in the most popular dinner restaurant being closed and sound checks being performed at high volume during the whole day.
They were also building new hotels on each side of Hyatt while we were there - no info from the hotel prior to stay.
The hotel is located quite far from Kamala Beach and 'city centre'. There is a shuttle tuktuk from the hotel, but does not run all day and not very often, so we used taxis and normal tuktuks.
As indicated in the heading - this is not a 5-star hotel in any way in our opinion, but certainly have the potential to become one! would therefore not recommend this to experienced travelers - the price and expectations do not match.
