How to Get There
we have just returned from our 4th stay at the centara. apart from a minor glitch with airport transfer which was easily fixed. our stay was as usual, perfect in every way. comfortable, quiet, convenient, great food, but i think the best asset are the helpful and friendly staff. we will be back in august next year.
We spent 7 nights at the Centara Karon resort. Our first impressions on driving towards the hotel were not great but once there we discovered a beautiful setting which was very different to the streets outside. We had two interconncectting rooms which were great for a family of five with three kids age 4,7 and 10. The rooms are large with balconies - very useful for drying wet swimming gear. We had a king size bed and two queens. Our room was overlooking the pool with the slides and as such it did get a bit noisy from about 8 onwards and there is some noise from the kitchen. There are lots of rooms further away though that would be quieter. The pool provided hours of entertainment fo the children with the two slides, basketball hoop and different level areas. One downside is the lack of a lifeguard, we accepted we were responsible for looking out for our children, but there were several unsupervised children who were a menace at times - I think the hotel needs to look out more for ddangeous behaviour, such as jumping off the rocks next to the pool. There is however another much larger pool with no slides and a swim up bar, which is less packed with kids and an adult only pool too. The Spa was great and reasonably priced . We partook in the Baht bonanza which have a 50% matched contribution from the hotel for money you committed to spending at the hotel e.g. 10,000 baht they matched with 5,000 baht. It could be spent on food, drinks and the spa. However don't get caught out by the 17% charge that all hotels put on their advertised costs (service charge and tax)! There is a quite a lot to visit nearby but we hired a car and it gave us great freedom. Local taxis and tuk tuks are ridiculously expensive even for short journeys. Overall a good hotel.
The resort is huge. There are rooms in the main hotel tower (dated, but can relate they have done some touch-ups)- also has its own pool (where kids are not allowed), and rooms at the landed resorts (where there are 2 sections -one for kids, one more serene). Overall the property is keeping up to terms given its one of the oldest names in the city. The buffet breakfast was great, but the quality was very acceptable - great pancakes, waffles, cereal selection. We were well taken care of by K. King at the reception. She's a star. For the first night we have 2 rooms at the main tower, but it was difficult to sleep as the bars near-by produced alot of noise (noise travels up)- BUT the next day K. King took extra interests to ensure we were moved to the other side of the hotel. Carpe Diem- the Kids Club is simply amazing with Tin, Marina & Mei. These team simply were amazing with their program and enthusiasm everyday. From Minion-themed Parties (small fee) to cheering kids at the breakfast (with their characters; note; mon-sat approx 9.15am). Finally - we were very well taken care by the bell boys squad. They huffed and puffed with the bags in the heat.. but had a smile!. We will def be back! The hotels has alot of good facilities right outside - laundry, mini-marts, restaurants, etc- it was very convenient.
