Family-run retreat in laid-back Kamala with an organic spa and an infinity pool overlooking the Andaman Sea

The Lowdown

A 30-minute drive from the bustle of Phuket town, the family-run Ayara Kamala Resort showcases Thailand’s natural assets, from the fresh seafood served at the Cradle restaurant and the organic treatments at the spa to the Andaman Sea views from the infinity pool. Local designer Khun V has created 42 stylish guestrooms that range from simple but chic balcony rooms to vast Grand Pool Villas. And Khun V’s daughter, who trained at the Swiss Hotel Management School, brings expert hospitality skills to the mix. Hot days and sultry nights see guests cooling off at the Ayara Parlour (which has a 360-degree glass-walled upper deck), at the quintessentially Thai spa or at the Overflow bar, where cocktails are a specialty. Guests can also sign up for scuba diving, cooking classes and visits to local tailors.

In the Area

If it’s peace and quiet you’re looking for in Phuket, then Kamala is just the spot, with its villagey atmosphere and a smattering of seafood shacks and shops. The top place to dine is the low-key, family-run Charoen Seafood restaurant, which has been serving the freshest seafood for the past 20 years. Families will enjoy the fantastically kitsch Phuket Fantasea theme park. If high culture is more your cup of tea, it’s worth hopping over to nearby Phuket town for a wander around its Chinese temples, Portuguese shop houses and cool new boutiques and cafés; try the China Inn Café for lunch and Suay for a contemporary Thai dinner.

Beautiful place and friendly staff

Ayara Kamala is undoubtedly the ideal resort for couples like us. From clean, modern, spacious interiors to beautiful views of the Andaman Sea literally at our doorstep, we enjoyed ourselves thoroughly every moment in the hotel. What is perhaps more amazing than this is the friendly, hospitable staff - in particular Dew and another short-hair frontdesk receptionist (we didn’t get her name) - who patiently listened to our requests and addressed them politely and professionally. The rest of the staff were also friendly, always greeting us with a smile.

You wont regret staying at Ayara Kamala

Ayara is amazingly beautiful resort. We stayed Oct 14-Oct 18 before heading back to Bangkok. The entire staff so nice and very helpful. The past reviews helped me choose the resort as it was close to my friends' villa. The grounds well maintained. Our room of choice ocean view unit D1, next to the spa, BEAUTIFUL. Each day we had an excursion and I wanted to miss them to stay and enjoy the resort. Which I actually took advantage of one rainy day and enjoyed the spa. Breakfast each morning, I looked forward to and was a great start with an amazing view. Ayara has some of the best views. Lunch and dinner was delicious here also. The Spa experience was incredibly Zen and great all around. The girls in the spa very sweet and accommodating. I can't say enough about the resort. You will not regret booking here, close to most places even Patong beach. The resort offers shuttle to certain places for free but you can use the Grab app, like an uber app to get you around where you need to go. Book Ayara!
