Overview

The Review

Set on six acres of meticulously manicured grounds in the heart of the city, the Sukhothai Bangkok shuts out the mayhem, street noise and daunting traffic of Bangkok.

The hotel takes its design cues (and name) from the legendary capital of 14th-century Siam, which was known for its resplendent palaces, reflection pools, open-air arcades and symmetrical colonnades. Inspired by this golden age, the hotel features lots of natural materials, including teak, marble and bronze.

At nearly 500 square feet, my Deluxe Studio feels more like a chic apartment than a hotel — it’s equipped with all a business exec or chic traveler might need, including a fax with private phone number, a Bose CD player, LCD television and a generous bathroom with separate tub and jet shower.

For a true escape, I opt for a pre-bedtime massage at the excellent Spa Botanica while my travel companion relaxes at the 82-foot outdoor infinity pool.

Though Bangkok is known for its amazing street food — indeed, eating is practically a national pastime — no visit is complete without a meal at Celadon, the hotel’s signature restaurant. Seeming to almost float on a lotus pond, the restaurant provides a serene setting for sampling a modern take on traditional dishes. From flower-shaped dumplings stuffed with minced chicken to a custardlike seafood dish steamed in a banana leaf cup, you simply can’t go wrong.

It’s reflective of the Sukhothai experience on the whole: indulgent, serene and pure Thailand, right in the heart of Bangkok.

An oasis of calm
Reviewed 3 hours ago

Although the hotel is located on a busy street, once you turn onto the property it's amazingly quiet and calm. The atmosphere is both luxurious and tropical so you feel like you're at a posh resort. The rooms are comfortable and quiet and the one I was in had a lovely view of the courtyard. The breakfast buffet has a nice selection of options, the food is fresh and delicious, and the staff are helpful. The fruit that is provided in your room each day is a nice touch and is always fresh. The courtyard with a water lily pond and flowering trees is a wonderful place to go for some peace and quiet. It was lovely sitting out there after breakfast among the flowers and the birds. This was my second stay at the hotel, which is my favorite of all the ones I've stayed at in Bangkok.

Fantastic choice of travelling

Randomly booked this hotel, and found out it's really a big surprise. The location is very good right in the city center. I liked the hotel's Thai stylished decoration. Also I want to thank the hotel staff Net from the front desk, she gave a lot of useful information to me and made me feel like at home. A very impressive staying.

Simply the best!

Sukhothai Hotel is always our favorite in BKK! Great team (especially Botan, Tippie, & the team), great food (lovely breakfast, Sunday bubble brunch, & Celadon), and great warm & caring service! Highly recommended & u would love it!

Great ambience and customer service

I’m returning here next month and remembered I had not yet put a review through for my great stay in Feb.

The hotel certainly lived up to the expectations. The lobby was airy, the rooms were elegant and relaxing, and the garden with a pond in the centre of the hotel is a rarity. Really an oasis of calm.

The hotel is centrally located, five minutes from the Lumphini Park and a short taxi ride to the main shopping malls. The well-known Nahm restaurant is right next to the hotel as well.

It was a truly Thai experience for me and my parents. A special thanks to Yuka for all her help over our stay. In addition to the great service, she spoke perfect Chinese ( and Japanese), which was a huge plus.

Highly recommend!

First choice in Bangkok

Just another great stay at the Sukhothai. Khun Tippie once again helped me get a room last minute and made sure my stay was perfect. The hotel is going through a massive update but I hope they don't mess too much with a good thing. Sukhothai is old school Bangkok, meaning it pays homage to Thai culture throughout the hotel rather than ignoring it or throwing in sparce nods like so many modern offerings.
