Overview

The Review

Set on six acres of meticulously manicured grounds in the heart of the city, the Sukhothai Bangkok shuts out the mayhem, street noise and daunting traffic of Bangkok.

The hotel takes its design cues (and name) from the legendary capital of 14th-century Siam, which was known for its resplendent palaces, reflection pools, open-air arcades and symmetrical colonnades. Inspired by this golden age, the hotel features lots of natural materials, including teak, marble and bronze.

At nearly 500 square feet, my Deluxe Studio feels more like a chic apartment than a hotel — it’s equipped with all a business exec or chic traveler might need, including a fax with private phone number, a Bose CD player, LCD television and a generous bathroom with separate tub and jet shower.

For a true escape, I opt for a pre-bedtime massage at the excellent Spa Botanica while my travel companion relaxes at the 82-foot outdoor infinity pool.

Though Bangkok is known for its amazing street food — indeed, eating is practically a national pastime — no visit is complete without a meal at Celadon, the hotel’s signature restaurant. Seeming to almost float on a lotus pond, the restaurant provides a serene setting for sampling a modern take on traditional dishes. From flower-shaped dumplings stuffed with minced chicken to a custardlike seafood dish steamed in a banana leaf cup, you simply can’t go wrong.

It’s reflective of the Sukhothai experience on the whole: indulgent, serene and pure Thailand, right in the heart of Bangkok.

Wonderfull!

Very beautiful hotel centrally located in Bangkok. You have the feeling to be in an holiday resort and not in the full center of the city. Price for rooms reasonable, but extras in the hotel a bit expensive. Recommanded for business or holidays!

Excellent service & facilities - very relaxing stay

I had an excellent weekend stay at The Sukothai, which met all of the expectations of a 5 star hotel in Bangkok. The rooms are excellent, very quiet and with good amenities. Breakfast buffet is excellent, staff is very friendly and service oriented. I would easily stay here again. It's excellent value.

Where they make a miracle happen!

Many reviews praise the Sukothai Hotel in Bangkok as superb, exceptional or magnificent. All of these are true and will lead you to the entrance way of this beautiful gem off South Sathorn Road. When doing so, you will be welcomed with top-class Thai hospitality and professional discretion.

But if you expect even more, they can make a miracle happen! Their concierge - her name is Kook - managed to recollect my credit card, which I had lost in the Suvarnabhumi airport at arrival. Within a few hours, I received it back in the hotel.

This is what makes the true difference between Sukothai and all other 5-star hotels in bangkok: miraculously good service.

Too short stay at the Sukhothai hotel

We have been visiting this extraordinary hotel for years and we were relieved that after the renovation the original charm and elegance was preserved. The only downer was the lack of sauna and cloakroom and the tennis court had to give way in favour of more deckchairs. The long-time employees recognized us and they still knew our special wishes. We always enjoy the very special charakter where we are welcomed as a family member.

Always the best
