This shiny new skyscraper opened in April 2013 and sits smack in the center of Bangkok’s Sukhumvit tourist vortex. In the lobby the Sofitel brand’s French roots are apparent in the form of elegant velvet furnishings and avant-garde light fittings, while elaborate displays of orchids and a smoldering copper color scheme feel distinctly Thai. The decor takes second place, though, at the L’Appart rooftop lounge, where the glittering city views dominate.
Bed and Bath
Chocolate walls, smooth wood surfaces and muted olive and gold soft furnishings give the guestrooms a soothing, if not terribly exciting, look and feel. Glass-walled bathrooms have tubs, monsoon showers and L’Occitane or Hermès amenities. The beds are supremely comfortable, and high-tech touches include Bose docks and lots of international TV channels. Additionally, Club Rooms have espresso machines, in-room fitness equipment and personalized butler service. Both Club Rooms and Suites offer access to the Millésime Club Lounge for breakfast and all-day snacks and drinks.
After navigating the neighborgood’s maze of malls and markets, flop down on a chic black daybed by the rooftop pool or book a lavender-scented signature treatment at Le Spa with L’Occitane. Suitably refreshed, take the elevator up to the 32nd floor for a glass of bubbly at the rooftop lounge as the sun sets over the steamy city. There are two dining options available: L’Appart, a gorgeous French restaurant in a Haussman-style dining room, and Voilà!, where an international buffet is served from live cooking stations.
In the Area
In the middle of one of Bangkok’s busiest thoroughfares, in a sea of shops, markets, bars and restaurants, you couldn’t be better placed for exploring the city. Take a left out of the hotel and walk five minutes to the trendy Terminal 21 shopping mall; this mammoth retail space has floors themed around world cities and is packed with pieces from cool local designers. Foodwise, go local with a bag of som tam (spicy papaya salad) on the street, try gastropub Little Beast or put on your best threads for a fancy dinner at Quince.
How to Get There
I'm losing count of the number of times I've stayed at this great hotel. Every time I do I am reminded of exactly why I keep going back. This trip, I also visited the SO Sofitel for a few nights and that too was fantastic but the Sofitel Bangkok Sukhumvit really still has the edge for me, not just it's great location and facilities but also their truly wonderful staff. In particular, Front Office Manager, Theo and his team always go way beyond the call for me and acted quickly to seamlessly correct an arrival time misunderstanding this trip. Textbook hospitality management at its finest. The hotel closed down their rooftop bar at the end of my stay and I'm looking forward to visiting the new one when I return in mid 2019.
The hotel is very neat however beautifully arranged everywhere. Staff are highly attentive but personal. , special thank to mr. Yan, Housekeeping and all staff at the Club Millesime who helped me and Mr. Ekenstedt during our stay. It was Mr. Ekenstedt's celebration,he was very grateful for birthday cakes. Food is very delicious, drinks are well selected. We been upgraded, our room was very clean, light and well decorated. Sofitel bed is always comfortable. Belga bar has an amazing view. First time stay at Sofitel Sukhumvit Bangkok. Convenient hotel to nearby Nana and Asoke BTS station. Lobby alittle crowded probably due to Christmas tree. Room comfortable with L' occitane toiletries. Thanks. Breakfast good assortment. 👍
I have stayed at the Sofitel on many visits to Bangkok and always had a pleasant experience. This time was quite different. The hotel looks tired....Next to my room in the passage the wallpaper is peeling off the wall...complained about it, nothing was done. The worst for me was the smell in the passage and in my bedroom. It had an old, musty, damp odor, quite revolting. The smell was actually so repulsive I had difficulty sleeping. When I complained about it I was supplied with an air purifier in my room.....it did not help at all. Definitely won’t be visiting again, I believe they are commencing with renovations next year....too late for me I’m afraid. Disgusting for a 5 star hotel.
