How to Get There
The hotel public spaces and rooms were all very well kept and comfortable. I ate in the bar and both food and service were excellent. Proximity to the Riverwalk was lovely, and to the convention center where the conference I was attending took place.
The Marriott Rivercenter is among the most convenient of San Antonio accommodations. The hotel is proximate to the Alamo, the Convention Center, dozens of restaurants, a shopping mall, and of course, it is right on the riverwalk. The hotel is always buzzing with conventions and conferences, so if you are looking for "lively," this is the place.
Unfortunately, beyond the convenient location, there isn't anything special about the Marriott Rivercenter. Everything is hit-or-miss: While check-in was effusively welcoming, most other employees acted like they couldn't be bothered. The rooms are tired and worn and in need of renovation, although the beds themselves were comfortable. Room service food ranged from exceptional to inedible, and the room service attendants were brusque and inept. The valet service was non-existent -- advance calls went unanswered, and cars took 30+ minutes to be brought, even during non-peak times; for almost $50/night in parking fees, one expects more responsive service. Lobby furnishings are comfortable but in short supply given the crowds. Elevators were slow, and the walls were thin.
Given the relatively steep price tag for the two nights we stayed, I wouldn't return. The Grand Hyatt across the street is much more quiet, consistent, and comfortable. But, if this is your appointed convention hotel, or if you snag a great deal on a room rate, it's worth a short stay, simply for the convenience. Just don't expect luxury or personalized attention; this is as mass market as San Antonio gets.
We stayed at the Marriott Rivercenter during a group trip. The location is fantastic on the River walk and within walking distance of many great local attractions and restaurants. The Alamo is only a five minute walk from the Marriott
Nice hotel and good location. Enjoyed our stay with friendly staff and good location to restaurants on the river walk.
Parking is expensive, but seems to be at all downtown hotels. Would stay here again.
The three story shopping mall is super convenient. I don’t like seeing as many empty storefronts as I saw this trip. My biggest dislike about the Rivercenter is that the food court is incredibly under sized and it is difficult to find a table almost any time of day.
