How to Get There
We never stayed at this hotel and were nervous trying a new hotel, we shouldn't have been, the check in was easy, Israel took care of us and was extremely hospitable and service oriented, the valet was easy, the hotel was clean and cool, quiet too, everyone was very professional, at breakfast Carlos took care of us and started the day out with an excellent menu and again Carlos and his service spirit was a special guy to get the day started, its nice to have so many employees enjoy what they do, and that was to serve so we could relax. Check out was easy, valet had our car in 10 minutes . Lastly the hotel is located on the Riverwalk so we simply walked out and everything was close by, especially all the great restaurants. Great time. Unfortunately many of the homeless were all over the Riverwalk, not by our hotel, but I'm surprised they allow so many on the Riverwalk, but we never had a problem with them. For sure one of the best stays we've ever had in San Antone.
The hotel was nice. However I found the staff indifferent. The breakfast cost was outrageous. They have some of the most expensive margaritas. Parking was outrageous. And shower barely came to my chest.
Nice hotel overall. No real complaints on room or staff. Its Very expensive for the experience and avoid the lobby bar. This place is in a perfect location, but you will pay for that. The lobby bar is awful.
Hilton Palacio del Rio was a very nice surprise. The lobby decor was extremely inviting, despite a smaller area, the elevators were operated by a touchpad where the floor was selected prior to boarding, and the breakfast included plenty of good options away from the standard fare. We stayed on a high floor, despite the more desirable floors being lower to accommodate the river views. I thought this was the best choice, as even near the top there was still some road noise from the intersection. The rear of the hotel steps out onto the riverwalk, and immediately to the boat tour which was a nice way to get acquainted with the area. The breakfast area/bar also had riverside seating which made for a nice environment. The valet parking was efficient, the front desk staff knowledgeable, and the housekeeping staff was extremely welcoming and caring. The rooms on our floor were well maintained, clean, and the queen beds were comfortable. The king room bed was oddly stiff compared to the queens. I would absolutely return to this location again, it would be exceptional for the Day of the Dead festivities at La Villita next door.
Driving in can be confusing since there is no parking offered at the hotel. The driveway becomes overcrowded. Valet service accidentally took our car to a garage 15 minutes away while we were unloading and checking in. Very little guidance given for the car. Otherwise the rest of our experience was great and the staff did not charge for the valet mistake.
