How to Get There
This is one of those easy reviews for me because we make this same trip every year around the holidays, so obviously we enjoy it! Let me start with the Grand itself, since that is where this review will appear. We love the quaint hotel, located just a few feet off one of the best town squares in Texas! The staff is always friendly, the rooms well appointed with antiques and just a hint of the history of this beautiful property, which has been wonderfully restored. We always purchase the romance package, so we have a bottle of chilled champagne and chocolate covered strawberries waiting for us in our room, and then enjoy a fantastic steak at Rick’s Chophouse...which is included in the package and attached to the hotel. All in all, a wonderful weekend! My only negative comments would be the noise level when in room, and the chair in our room was past worn out!
The location in downtown McKinney can't be beat. I can't wait to go back. The club had a fantastic band on Friday night; we had so much fun. The coffee through room service Saturday morning was seriously the best coffee I think I've ever had -- no idea why! :-) The hotel is beautiful, eclectic, a different experience than most. I really enjoyed it.
As soon as you walk into the lobby, you are greeted with warmth and kindness. The Hotel is a boutique hotel - no cookie cutter here. The decor is eclectic and fun. My room had a king size bed and a skylight. Very comfortable. Rick’s Chophouse was my favorite meal with a great wine selection. They had music playing at the bar and a fun vibe. This would be a perfect girls weekend, romantic get away, or (like me) reprieve in a business trip. I will be back.
If you enjoy staying at historic hotels than you must plan a stay at The Grand. This property has been wonderfully renovated to keep it's historic elements. The rooms have high ceilings and many include exposed brick. The decor fits the history. The bathrooms are dated, and not in an historic way. They were renovated along the way and are due for another. The staff is great, and they kept our bags so we could enjoy McKinney's fabulous downtown before it was time to check in. The bar located on the first floor is lively with good personalities, and the hallway connects to a steakhouse. Make sure you take both sets of stairs.
We experienced the romance package which included the room, chocolate strawberries & prosecco, and dinner for 2 at Rick's Chophouse which included appetizer, salad, entree and dessert! Great value and scrumptious furnishings and bed. Bathroom was big and had original marble floors! Bed was comfortable and room was quiet. Free valet parking available and they'll put dinner leftovers in the fridge for you! Celebrate your next anniversary here!
