Hill Country Getaway

Surprised my husband for an awesome weekend at Sage Hill Inn. This is such a magical property. The staff are all incredibly friendly and want to make sure your stay is everything you’d hope for. We stayed in the Hays Room, which was upstairs and very quiet. Big porch along the front of the building and a small, private patio off the back. Gorgeous views, several hiking trails, and amazing food!!! We had wonderful massages in the spa, and enjoyed exploring all the veggies and flowers in the garden. We will definitely be back again soon.

A friend and I stayed here for only one night. The grounds are full of wild flowers which are beautiful. The meals (dinner and breakfast) were very good. We stayed in the room with two queens which is on the third floor so pack lightly. :) The room was very nice and comfortable.
I highly recommend the spa too. I had the package with a massage, scrub, and facial. I liked that the facial was gentle and no

A two night stay was great! The quiet / calm surroundings were wonderful for unwinding from the stress of every day life. The staff was very polite and accommodating. The included breakfast and dinner were both awesome. The Michales Room was very comfortable. A remote control fireplace was easy to use and added to the fun. A trip to the spa for a couples massage was enjoyable and a stress relief. We will be back...soon.

Beautiful serene setting. Well appointed rooms and courteous service. The grounds are stunning and well maintained. Meals are fresh from garden and delicious. Service was excellent with many small and thoughtful touches. Great spot to get away from it all.

Marketed as 5 star, but really a solid 3.5!

We spent 2 nights in the Guest House at Sage Hill. They clearly market to be a high end property and we paid about $1250 a night to stay in the Guest House. I think the what I was surprised about was the lack of attention to detail.
The house is very pretty and extremely spacious. But falls short of being luxurious. First, finish out of the house is nice, but no marble in bathroom, robes are very worn, not ironed or luxurious - more like something you put on when you get your hair cut.
Kitchen is spacious but lacks basics like a can opener. There are 4 plates and 4 bowls and the house has 3 bedrooms. The towels are white, standard hotel towels, not anything plush or special. They use local bath products. We've stayed at other similar properties in hill country and this brand is a staple in all of them. Nothing special.
Most distressing was the bed in the master bedroom. There is a lumpy feather insert on top of the mattress. We did't like how it felt and removed it and the bed was the worst mattress ever - thin and cheap! And they put a large fitted sheet on the small mattress and there was so much extra material that we kept getting tangled up in.
They made the beds the next day, but nothing more than that. They left dishes in the sink and didn't run the dishwasher. We ran out of paper towels and the dawn dish soap was diluted with tons of water.
The grounds are beautiful - wild flowers everywhere and lovely walking paths. The pool is nice and the little games on the lawn are an added touch.
Most disappointing was the breakfast - they advertise a fresh squeezed orange juice. It is one of those thick pasteurized kinds not fresh squeezed. We asked the waitress about this and she confirmed. They advised fresh baked breakfast breads, but the pastries looked like they came from Kroger. They were not fresh baked or home made. I think one morning there was one thing that looked baked. Coffee is self serve from one of those stay hot thermos containers which did not keep the heat. Water for tea comes from the keurig coffee machine so it tastes like coffee. They advertised fresh fruit but only had it one of the two mornings we were there. Dinner was good, not great - NO substitutions are permitted and they mean it! You eat what they give you or you don't eat. It did not feel like fine dining.
It may seem like we didn't enjoy our visit but we did. What we didn't like was paying for a five star property that markets as such and getting a 3.5 experience. Compared to Dos Brisas for the same price and both marketed as a 5 star experience, Sage Hill falls short of what it claims. It's a nice place and if it adjusts its pricing accordingly, we'd come back, but with different expectations.
