Three separate buildings — a neo-gothic former bank, a 1913 Classical Revival–style structure and a 1911 former Salvation Army — have been combined to create the strikingly contemporary Joule. Designed by renowned hospitality designer Adam D. Tihany, the public spaces juxtapose gleaming ivory-colored marble floors, glass elevators and a sleek Taschen library with such accents as mohair and leather chairs, a hallway lined with mosaics rescued from the original structures, and the vault from the old bank building.
Bed and Bath
Also showing the modern-but-warm Tihany touch, the 160 guestrooms and suites are decorated in serene jewel or earth tones, contemporary furniture, hand-picked artworks and photographs, with plenty of natural light from oversize windows. The bedding consists of 300-thread-count Sferra linens and Frette robes, and techno touches include Bose bluetooth radio and 47-inch flat-screen TVs equipped with Apple TV. The bathrooms feature ESPA amenities from the spa.
Following its expansion in 2013, the Joule now includes a retail corridor housing several upscale designer boutiques, including Tenoversix and Traffic, as well as a Taschen library and Weekend Coffee, which uses Victrola Beans flown in weekly from Seattle. At the lobby-level CBD Provisions restaurant and bar (named one of the best in town just months after opening), chef Michael Sindoni puts a modern twist on Texas traditions (think broiled Gulf oysters with absinthe whipped potatoes, and green chile pork tacos), while bartenders from NYC’s Cuff & Buttons have created a bar menu highlighting creative cocktails, regional craft beers and top Texas wines. The 8,000-square-foot subterranean ESPA spa — the brand’s U.S. flagship — has facilities that include a vitality pool, an ice fountain, a crystal steam room and a glass-walled sauna to enjoy before or after services. There’s also a fitness center and the famous glass-fronted rooftop pool, which sticks eight feet out from the side of the building.
In the Area
Downtown Dallas has enjoyed a total regeneration in the last few years, and the Joule enjoys a prime position to take it all in. Shoppers can’t miss the flagship Neiman Marcus department store, a registered historic landmark built in 1914 that happens to be right next door to the hotel. The city’s art scene is world class, and many of the top spots are a short trip using the hotel’s free area car service. Don’t miss the indoor/outdoor Nasher Sculpture Center, the treasure-filled Dallas Museum of Art and the stunning, eco-friendly Perot Museum of Nature and Science. Near the Arts District, One Arts Plaza features restaurants, outdoor seating and live music spaces.
How to Get There
This hotel is modern filled with the owners personal art collection. The staff , Concierge, Daniel Castellanos, Tre, waitstaff in CBD Provisions are the best. Service is at the highest level at this hotel. Everyone at this hotel seems to have a common goal to make the guests feel welcome and pampered. They offer a courtesy car for most destinations within a 5 mile radius. We ate at the CBD everyday for breakfast and thoroughly enjoyed the French Press coffee and yogurt parfait with granola. We especially appreciated our conversations with Tre who was extremely polite and generally a great person to talk with. We definitely will be returning to this location.
My husband and I booked a rather last minute trip to Dallas for a long weekend. The Joule ROCKS! Super staff, pool is wonderful and we enjoyed something at EVERY restaurant and bar on the property. What a hidden gem! Our room was wonderful and the valet and concierge staff just made our trip. Lovely property. We both highly recommend.
I recently got to experience the Spa at the Joule. It was a first class experience from the moment I stepped on to the property until I reluctantly had to leave when my visit was done. My masseuse, Theresa, was outstanding. She was intuitive with my massage and addressed my shoulder issues. Lisa was also outstanding with making sure that I had everything I needed during my visit. The Spa was relaxing, soothing and rejuvenating. I would highly recommend a visit if you are in Dallas.
