How to Get There
My wife and I recently stayed at the Renaissance Austin Arboretum hotel, and while the overall experience was merely reasonably satisfactory; considering the over $200/night cost, glaring gaps between advertised expectations and reality in their service & amenities reduced it to an overpriced 2-3 star hotel. For full disclosure, the cost of the room was payed for by my wife's employer in conjunction with a work related activity. We personally payed for the room incidentals and service.
The amenities & service we experienced were only barely adequate for a hotel pretending to be a 4 star stature. We've stayed in hotels with much better amenities & service for half the price. The room amenities were those of simple & basic which would be expected & provided in ANY OTHER budget priced hotel. Renaissance advertises "Thoughtful amenities" with "Contemporary sophistication". The level of "thought" exerted into their service & amenities is certainly not commensurate with the cost or visual presentation. Room service had all the "contemporary sophistication" of pizza delivery. Our full breakfast room service was delivered in a plastic bag & a paper bag and a cardboard & plastic coffee carafe, with NO cart or tray; just "here is your bags of food". We got three different kinds of sugar, but no salt & pepper.
Little brochures around the room tout their professed practices toward "green resources" yet every piece of our room service was plastic & paper, and undoubtedly will end up in a land fill; not washed & reused.
The wifi internet access is not free. The elevators were unreliable.
The bathroom linen, towels, wash rags, etc., were NOT reasonably & conveniently located "in the bathroom", but in the entrance hall. No microwave in the room.
The "front of the house presentation" DOES NOT equate with the "behind the scenes reality" of the room & service. Save your money & stay somewhere else.
Room rate close to $400 for a room not worth more than $150-$200. Low ceilings, old furnishings, minimal amenities, dated room. Bare bones offerings at the club for platinum members with several items not being replenished. Usual Marriott trend these days where the rates are way too high for what is being offered and the staff is trying to make up for the gap by being highly professional and polite.
Stayed here for a week recently for work. Great location for a hotel, right in the middle of a shopping mall so loads of options for food in the evening.
Service was fantastic, the hotel staff could not do enough to for you.
The rooms were a very good size with all the facilities you could need - I used the coffee machine every day. The bathroom was nice, good toiletries and restocked daily. I even swam in the pool.
I would stay here again if I went back for work.
Firstly the hotel does not looks anywhere near as glamorous as it does online. This hotel is stuck in the 1980’s and is basic to say the least...
After a very long flight from the UK I firstly get put in a room that stinks of smoke! However, the receptionist was very helpful and helped me move rooms straight away which was great customer service. Then I go for dinner in the flagship restaurant which was horrendous. I come back to my room to have a hot shower before beg and there is NO hot water. This is not a 4* hotel and so far my stay here has been horrendous and I am considering moving hotels for the next 5 nights of my stay!
The Renaissance is in one of the best locations in Austin. Just a few minutes from The Domain and with an excellent shopping, restaurant area if its own, The Renaissance is perfect for business or fun in Austin. The restaurants, both in the hotel and in walking distance, are excellent. Don’t miss Austin Cheese or Amy’s ice-cream.
