How to Get There
I recommend that Austin-bound travelers avoid this Double Tree. The reservations system is in shambles, and the on-site staff is rude and unhelpful. In February 2019,
I booked three rooms over the weekend of Feb. 8-11 for family members who were traveling to Austin for a memorial service. What I booked: one room for one night; one room for three nights; one room for four nights. I arranged payment for the rooms on my credit card. These bookings were for adult children in their early 30s. Each booking was bungled, and each of my adult children or their partners was treated dismissively and disrespectfully.
I need to back up and explain that the reservation process involved calling the local property in Austin and being transferred to central reservations. I spent more than an hour on one occasion and 58 minutes on the second call. I timed it because of the difficulty in making the simplest reservation via telephone with the first call. My requests were simple: add another reservation; add a night to one of the reservations I had made earlier; confirm an earlier reservation. This is what hotels do -- they rent hotel rooms. That call was the 58-minute call.
When my children arrived at the Double Tree at 303 15th Street, Austin, none of the reservations reflected what i had arranged. For my son, whose reservation I had extended from a Thursday - Saturday to include a Sunday, it was a disaster. He and his wife, who is African American, returned from a family breakfast to find they had been locked out of their room. Please keep in mind that he and his wife were in Austin for a funeral -- his grandfather's. They went to their room, found it locked, went to the front desk, and were treated hostilely. He ultimately telephoned me to see if I could help sort out the issues. There was no apology from the on-site manager, only a comment that the fault was with central reservations.
Another of my children arrived per the reservation and was not permitted to check in until she paid on her card for a prepaid room that I had reserved. Again, the front desk staff was unhelpful and rude.
These were not discounted rooms. Each rented for about $200 per night. Parking was an additional $35 a day. These rooms did not include breakfast or other amenities. Also, I am a Hilton Honors members.
So, I recommend that you consider considering other lodging in Austin. I cannot recommend this Double Tree.
Great hotel! Fabulous service, the food is phenomenal and great wine list. While I didn't get to use the pool or gym, I appreciate the were an option. Make sure you ask for the amazing chocolate chip, oatmeal, walnut cookie! Beyond amazing!
We are staying here as I write this and I have been up since 3:30 this morning—yesterday it was 4:30, listening to clanging metal, trucks coming and going, general construction noise. It’s not construction on the hotel, but right behind it.
The hotel itself is lovely and it’s a great location for walking to the Capital, restaurants, and UT (we’re in town to watch our daughter at a swim meet). The food in the restaurant is very good and staff is friendly, but the hotel should at least let people know about the noise or not book the rooms on the back side of the hotel during the project.
The room was huge & comfortable. The staff was very helpful & nice. Overall, gave good recommendations for food. The hotel has a shuttle that, when we didn't want to drive ourselves, they got us to & from our destinations. With having a car, parking was an additional $35/night. Hard to find parking in the city. Would stay there again!
Great location. Great view of the capital. Nice clean room with a lot space. Small balcony. Staff extremely helpful. Will make this my go to hotel for Austin. New building being built. We were there on weekend so no one working. It also is blocking a lot of the rooms view of the capital.
