How to Get There
The Sam Houston Curio Hilton is a good option for staying in downtown Houston. It is conveniently located near Minute Maid Baseball Park. With shuttle service to other downtown locations it is worth staying at this relatively new historic hotel. Staff was welcoming and helpful. Valet made sure that we were serviced by the shuttle with one easy call. Because it is a smaller Hilton than others in the downtown area it had a more intimate feel - less frantic - better service.
From the first day we were there, (the night of the world series at the Minute Maid stadium) to the last morning, the staff were out of this world. I actually asked the front desk person why that was and she said it was because they all loved working there. Paul was there with a smile every morning (4 days) and helpful manner. The property is in a bit of a tough area with the homeless sleeping on the street at night one block away, but it was very safe. Cops are everywhere and there was also great food one more block from there. Beds were also marvelous and super clean rooms. We did not get a car because we could walk everywhere and the shuttle was 15 minutes out at most from anywhere downtown. Just get yourself in the door and you will be glad you did.
We will be staying there again.
Hotels are hotels but what makes the difference really is the staff! The staff as a whole was great, but Fourest Mills, the front office manager, was above and beyond. He took great care and whatever I needed he did not hesitate to assist me. I needed a cord for my computer because I was involved in a meeting and forgot my cord. He ran all over the hotel to find me a cord. Who does that? Most people at hotels would just say "sorry we don't have one" but he did not give up. I will definitely stay again and recommend the hotel!!!
