How to Get There
Booked and stayed in a King Deluxe; a little small, but bathroom quite large (loved the large shower with no tub). Got free breakfast with Diamond status; full cooked to order breakfast with multiple options. Very good. Had snacks and drinks in bar, but didn't eat in full service restaurant for dinner. Valet parking very prompt and polite (and they had no problem with my manual transmission).
This is a unique place, fully updated, clean and modern but maintains the feel of the old Sam Houston Hotel. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable of the area. We enjoyed dining at the bar/restaurant downstairs and will definitely be back!
This was our first time at this hotel. We won this plus 2 Texan tickets at a silent action. The location was great to many local restaurants within walking distance and we took metro to the game. Metro was just two blocks from the hotel. We would stay at this hotel again.
The Sam is a lovely hotel residing in a historical building in downtown Houston. The lobby, common areas, and rooms are generous and very comfortable. The only downside is the hotel's location, which is not in a very safe or walkable section of the city.
I travel over 100K/miles annually with well in excess of 100 hotel nights per year. Rarely do I find a hotel team as cohesive and incredibly, passionately professional as the staff at the Sam Houston. Recommend without reservation, which is something I would only say about a rare handful of hotels in the US.
