How to Get There
This is a very interesting property.
The lobby is large with very high ceilings. There is a bank vault door behind the front desk. Front desk staff were friendly and helpful.
There is a nice bar area as well as a restaurant seating area on the first floor.
The elevators are small, but have character.
The cozy king room I had was a good enough size. The bed was comfortable. The bathroom was large. There were a lot of neat nooks and interesting classic design features. The room really had a lot of character.
The halls were quiet.
The only issue I had was at breakfast. I got down just after 6:30 (when it opens) and the food was not out. Eventually they brought most of it out. Staff stopped working and were talking to each other for long periods of time. The bald waiter I had looked at me, but ignored me for the first 10 minutes and literally just stood around. He finally came over, with no smile whatsoever on his face, did not say hello, did not say good morning, filled up some water and left. I ran out of water and he did not refill it until he brought the check. He seemed annoyed at my very presence. Very rude.
Other than the breakfast issue, everything else was great.
This is one been of the most beautiful hotels ive visited. The stay was a random sointaneous idea. And it couldn't have been. The staff was amazing, calming and helpful. The rooms gorgeous. Its almost like being transported back to an elegant time before me. The view was breathtaking especially from the jacuzzi tub in room! It was unforgettable for many reasons!
I have stayed here a few times before and chose to stay at Hotel Icon for several reasons but this stay was to specifically celebrate our 10 year wedding anniversary. Im sad to say that from the beginning of check in things didnt seem right. The front desk was not very friendly nor hospitable. The room was a bit dirty and the bed was terribly stiff and uncomfortable. I had arranged some special arrangements with the front desk weeks prior and had followed up a few days before my stay for everything to be ready for our stay but to my surprise it never came. I was a bit let down! So on Sunday i walked down and asked the front desk why we had never received any of the arrangements i had requested and lady working was extremely cold and on the defensive, saying i had never requested them. When i had very carefully made sure everything was perfect for our celebration. Overall, just several things that made us not feel welcomed. It was very odd. You’d think folks would be treated much better especially because I had dropped about $1000 on a two night stay. Beautiful place lacking kindness.
An elegant ambience and great service defines this classy hotel. Ever since it was first recommended to me, Icon has been my first choice in downtown Houston. A good restaurant, cozy rooms, great room service are things you can take for granted. The omelette bar for breakfast is definitely a must try!
We booked a Junior suite. We arrived, and for some reason we were bumped up to the Penthouse suite. The room was spectacular! We had a living room with a great view of downtown, and an upstairs bedroom with a huge bathroom. The bed was sumptuous, and the shower was really nice! DId not try out the whirpool tub, maybe next time. We couldn't be more pleased with the staff, from the valet, to the front desk, and the bartender that night. Great location for us too! Close to the Wortham Center where we attended the Nutcracker ballet, and close to some wonderful night life! Easy to get to from I-10 and easy to get back out of town. We will be staying here from now on when in Houston!
