How to Get There
The hotel lobby is beautiful and the gym/ pool area is wonderful. The pool was closed with the water drained so we did not use it for one day. Then, the water was freezing with no water heater. The engineers could not help (or would not help). On the day that I left, the sun shone in at an angle. I discovered that the duvet (where I slept for 4 nights) was dirty with blood and other human waste. It was disgusting. I reported it but all was too late as I was ready to leave. Poor quality control—the manager wrote back but this does not erase the experience of sleeping under a blood stained and dirty duvet. Sad.
The purpose of our trip to Houston was to tour the University of Houston. However, when we found that the Hilton on campus was booked, we accepted the offer to stay at the Hilton Americas. I was happy for the opportunity to be downtown. The hotel is elegant, extremely comfortable, and a pleasure to stay in. The room was large, with a nice big bed. Shower and bathroom were well-equipped. Internet was fairly slow, however. My wife and I used the fitness center, which is large, with lots of equipment. As often happens, the TV screen on the elliptical did not work properly, but that is a minor complaint.
All in all, a really wonderful stay at an excellent hotel.
Big rooms, great service, good location by the convention centre and in downtown. Rooms are a bit tired and they could be cleaner, but the staff are very friendly and helpful. several restaurants and bars in hotel and also in the area.
Hotel is in a good location if you are going to Minute Maid or the Convention Center, access to skywalk is nice, especially in inclement weather. There are some great restaurants very close by. Bell staff was also very helpful.
Front desk staff was so-so, I was standing in line and no one waited on me despite people standing there. Two guys also walked right in front of me and were waited on immediately, staff didn't say a word. I was extremely tired from several flights, getting in late and was not dressed in business apparel so I felt like that was part of why I was not waited on, but I was tired and not in a great mood so that is purely my opinion based on observation, by no means fact. A new employee emerged from the back and immediately waited on me, thank you young lady!
Unfortunately the room's cleanliness leaves much to be desired. I realize that my experience may not be the norm for the hotel and too be fair I did not report anything during my stay. I'm sure if I had the hotel would have graciously offered to clean or move me to another room so I just wanted to make that clear. I was barely there for 11 hours and was so exhausted I decided not to make a fuss.
I posted pics (which I never feel the need to do) there was a dirty towel on the coffee station, I just took this as a sign housekeeping was there and someone accidentally forgot a cloth, no big deal. Then I noticed how rusty and dirty the coffee maker was. The fronts of almost all cupboards were dirty, the one under the coffee station looks like it had been splattered with something and never wiped down. Same with bathroom, fronts were dirty as were insides of drawers. Carpets were stained and nightstand glass had something damp underneath it.
On the positive the bed and pillows were great and AC/Heat worked fine. Shuttle driver was also very friendly.
I have traveled all over the world for business and pleasure and tend to favor Marriott and Westin, but the conference I was attending listed this hotel as the recommended place to stay so I rolled with it. All of the above along with Hilton's policy of not allowing changes or cancellations to your stay unless they are within three days of check-in will probably keep me from staying at a Hilton property again.
From an warm welcome - to a grand feast with the annual Heart Ball - to a lovely breakfast at the fine lobby restaurant, a great stay! The Exec level club is highly recommended, as is the lobby bar. All the front desk staff is excellent.
