How to Get There
Rooms - clean and VERY comfortable.Facilities - well-maintained, with many great public spaces; outstanding pool, fitness center, spa, outdoor rooftop terrace, stunning views day and night in the Executive Lounge, Access - excellent connection to the convention center.Service - very very good, from the valet, to the registration desk, and absolutely housekeeping.Actually waiting for another excuse to stay at this hotel again.
My wife and I stayed at the Hilton Americas hotel during a business trip. The accommodations were very comfortable and the Hotel maintained a peaceful vibe. The inside pool and hot tub was very nice and relaxing after a long day.
Navigating one-way streets in downtown Houston is always a nightmare, but once I was able to find the right path, the valet and self-park areas were easy to locate. However, getting from the parking lot to the lobby desk to check in is a bit of a maze (two elevators and a bit of walking). Tip: If you have a lot of luggage and are choosing to do self-park, I would recommend leaving your car with valet at the entrance while you check in and then self-park.
Pro: The lobby bar is absolutely stunning and the happy hour drinks were a bonus. I'm pretty picky about my margaritas, and their HH one did not disappoint. They have made an effort with the bar menu, noting items as gluten free. I didn't make it to the restaurant, but I assume they would do the same.
Con: There were very few options available to choose from. Actually, just one, chicken wings.
Pro: I did ask the bartender to sub the spinach dip with tortilla chips instead of bread and she was more than happy too. Since i'm only sensitive, it was fine for me. So service, A+!
Con: Unfortunately, this is when my trip took a turn I hadn't been feeling well that day and a few sips into my drink the ill feeling was doubling down and I knew I needed to lay down. Left the bar and as I was heading to my room, a man followed behind me into the elevator. I try not to judge, but the man did not look like he was staying at the hotel, based on the poor shape he was in and his clothes. I assume he could have just walked in from a street entrance (which is located near the hotel elevators). Sadly, I was very frightened. I asked him which floor and stumbled upon a response. Thankfully mine was several higher, so he had to get off before me. Maybe nothing bad would have happen, maybe I was paranoid and he was a true guest. Regardless, a guest should never have to worry about their safety, especially at an upscale hotel like this one. There is a large architectural feature that limits the view of the elevators to the rest of the lobby. Nice visual, but not as safe. Security also needs to be more visible in these areas. I don't think I saw any security while I was there.
Pro: The room was clean, spacious, and the bed was very comfortable. The bath tub was spotless, and thank goodness because I was so sick I had to take a bath.
Con: By the time I reached my food after my slight elevator scare, I was so sick that I immediately crawled into bed with fever chills and body aches. I could tell I had become a victim to the flu. Worst ever when your away traveling. Luckily I packed a sweatshirt last minute, because the hotel does not have robes.This is when the small details I usually don't care about started to mean the most and where the hotel didn't shine. There is a fridge in the room, but it is empty. Not even expensive bottled water for you to buy (which I was so desperate for I would have). Hotels at this level usually have a few items for in room purchases, even if it's not fully stocked. I wanted to make use of the tea bags they had, but I didn't have any filtered water to do so. At this point, I was not in any shape to go searching down the halls for a vending machine, And quite frankly, I was still a little scared from my elevator experience- to the point I didn't want to leave the room or have any room service come to my room.
I made it through the night after a hot bath and the two Advil I happened to have on me.
All in all, the hotel is beautiful, and I would stay here again if: they up security near the hotel entrances/elevators.
I know my experience, being under the weather, is definitely not the hotels fault. But I feel it is something management should think about and plan for in the hospitality business - How can we best prepare our rooms and accommodate our guests when they come down sick in our hotel? What are the options for a guest who can't leave their room to go to the gift shop for medicine?
Always a great stay. My family always feels safe and comfortable when we visit. The staff is always friendly and so helpful. We will definitely keep coming back as this is our preferred Hilton property when we travel to Houston.
We were attending a conference at the convention center across the street. Our room was large, comfortable, and convenient to the sky bridge. The staff were friendly and helpful. We will definitely stay here again next time!
